just booked up with Oasis to go to Hong Kong! Got the guide books, know what I want to see and do but cant find any decent info on shopping
With he strength of the pound at the moment (i go in June) i'm on the lookout for bargains!
Obviously I know that there are supposed to be cheap electrical goods, would I get a cheap mobile decent phone there? What other electrical items are good value? - i guess memory cards... CDs DVDs Am I right?
What about clothes? my wardrobe is entirely stocked by clothes bought on holidays (mainly USA) is it good there. Not wishing to stereotype but I'm 6ft 3 is there anything for me (Kuala Lumpur was hard work to find stuff).
Are there the suitmakers etc.. that you find in Vietnam?
Any other advice gratefully received! If there's nothing to buy it ont spoil my holiday at all!

Best places in HK for shopping are probably Stanley Market and Nathan Rd, fantastic cheap Nike shop, HMV etc. Electrical stuff is much cheaper ie ipods, cameras, computersetc.. In some shops your height might be a problem
as a skinny female I found the place great.
As for thinks to see, where do I start.... The Peak-fantastic views and excellent restaurants, shopping of course (see above) Ocean Park - go see the Giant Pandas, theme park and if you aren't worried by heights take the cable car over the park (pretty scarry seeing my feet dangling over the south china sea)visit the sitting buddha on Lanatu, hop over via the ferry to Macau- check out the casinos, hire minimoak (not sure of spelling but basically a jeep) fantastic fun the list is endless. Fantastic fish restaurants at New Territiories.
Buy yourselves an Octopus card as although the public transport is cheap this will make it even cheaper.
My brother lives there so we try to go once a year, roll on October.Panda on My Shoulder
If you can make it cheaper do so. If it's not reduced, in Primark, off ebay or free I can't have it :rotfl:0 -

There are excellent suit makers there, I find the stitching a higher quality than elsewhere in Asia. I'm 6 ft 5 and got an excellent suit made - about £150, but great material, fitting, etc etc. I know you can get suits for 20pence elsewhere, but the fit was excellent. I can advise the suitmaker if you wish.
I bought back a mini film camera and 1 inch screen. A bit mental, but cheap! I also went to a Shanghai Tan sample sale for my other half - wow.0 -
Laptops WITH AN INTERNATIONAL WARRANTY actually cost a bit more in Hong Kong than in Britain. The cheapest way to buy them is from the USA: even after postage and VAT they still cost less than from anywhere else.
The electronics shops around Nathan Road are well-known for pulling a range of scams: they have a great selection but if you shop there make sure you know exactly what you want and how much to pay for it, and check that all the accessories you expect are actually in the box before you pay anything.
Anyway, the Tourist Information people are really good and give you clear information about all the things to see. Remember that the national parks and the islands are well worth visiting: Hong Kong is not all about the city!0 -
