OR interview looming...advice needed re car please

In my initial conversation with the OR's office immediately after I went BR she told me I would lose my car. In the meantime they would get a valuation etc.

I have also got my own written valuation now from a local garage of £1000, which is also what I put on my SoA.

What happens if my valuation differs from the OR's?

I am going to put up a fight to keep the car but assuming I lose the fight and I can get a relative to buy it back, what would be a resonable offer to the OR?

Does it have to be a figure somewhere in between the two valuations or does the OR's valuation take precedence over mine?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

  • Thanks for the response B-A-A-B. I'm confident the garage gave me a cash price valuation, no trade in, so I'm pretty sure this is as accurate as it can be.

If I can avoid ringing the auction place I will, I'm a woman and men talking cars always intimidates me...I'm a wuss as well. But I will think about it, or get my OH to do the talking.

    Thanks!

Yeah, I did do that GIS, but it gave me a higher valuation (can you believe it!) so that's why I went to the garage, so they could see my various dents and scratches (the car not me!).

Obviously I want to use the lowest valuation, just hoping the OR sees it my way.

    Thanks anyway.
  • OH rang car auction place, and they will not enter into any discussion about prices without seeing the car (they are 60+ miles away, so it's not like I can just nip over) and they won't even discuss what similar cars have previously sold for.
  • thats a shame but i agree with what blind is saying .

iv been to a few auctions and have very rarely seen a car go for anywhere near its true value especially older cars .

    So in theory then

£1000 car -auction fees -commision -cost of collection of said car = not alot left for the OR

  • Depending on what the OR has for a valuation, I'm thinking I might offer around £500. I could maybe persuade a rellie to part with that amount of cash. I'm no bloody good at 'negotiating', so I'm liable to offer an outrageous sum of money if I don't have a figure in my head beforehand.

    Thanks for your input guys.
  • i make it worth £375 to th OR by my way

Hells bells, ...I can hear the OR laughing already. I shall have the gin bottle by my side if I have the courage to offer that figure! (even though I know you're probably right!)
  • we could do with a used car dealer on here:rotfl:

Oh that would be so useful...there must be a bankrupt car dealer somewhere.
  • correction- value your car AND validate the offer. If you see a bead of sweat forming on the OR,s head youve got em ;-)
i must learn to spell and type one day

Mine's a telephone interview...perhaps I will have to wait for a long silence at the end of the phone instead!

    Hi

I suggest you take the price offered by the garage , HALF it, take another £100 off for agents fees, take another 15% off for auction fees and general hassle to the OR and start your offers from there. Start as low as you dare cos you never know, they might just accept it and you can always increase it.
