  • You can get a 40" Sony Bravia HD LCD with built in freeview (model KDL40U2000U) for £899 from Sainsbury's at the moment. It's got £400 off. You'd get nectar points, too!

  • Hello loulou41,
When you and hubby decide which tv you like check out 'John Lewis'. They give a free 5yr guarantee on all tv's, they will also price match most store's. And free delivery i think, poss depends on distance you live from store.

I got a Sony from them before xmas - price match, free delivery and 5 yr guarantee, i was well happy. (Got a free dvd/hdd recorder as well)

    Good luck

There is one advertising at the moment, bravia 40" KDL40S2010 LDC HD at £1,199 + free dvd/hdd recorder, do not know what hdd means? I understand you can record on the hard drive. Can you also play rental dvd? Is that the one you bought, it says stand included, is it just an ordianry stand, not a cabinet? Hubby really wants one before MU plays in June for the final. The problem, I will have to find a space to store the current bulky one, sometimes I wish if only it packs up then you can get rid of it for good. will check my local currys & comet stores as well. You said, you are happy with the buy, is it difficult to set up, got sky. Hubby is not a technical person. Thanks for your help.

Which ones to choose for a newbie? Thanks
  • Hi loulou41,
The hdd(hard disc drive) is as you say where you can record tv programmes onto (eg. cup final !!), you can play dvd's + you can transfer the programmes you recorded on the hdd onto a recordable disc(cup final ?)

Had the same dilema about replacing the tv we had, but in the end decided to treat ourself and gave my parents our old tv.

As Cardew states there are numerous Sony lcd tv's - We decided how big a screen we wanted bearing in mind how big your room is and how near you will sit to the tv. How much you really want to spend, and shop around (Bear in mind what 'John Lewis' deal you might get when you decide on the exact tv)

The tv we choose - KDL40W2000 did not come with a stand, we purchased that seperately.
Any problems with setting up, you can check this site out:

    Good luck

With any tv/lcd/plasma go and have a look at the screen somewhere first, you will see how bad some of the pannels can be.
Try to make sure you watch them using normal tv/sky so you know what they will look like with normal stuff.
I'm looking at the moment but have decided to wait as some v nice stuff is coming on the market.
The samsung R8 series (avoid the R7 series) is very nice for a LCD while the Panasonic TH37PX70 is also v tempting.

Watching them in Currys or Comet dosent give a true indication of the quality of the screen they are usually set up bad with crap feeds

Your right, they do use a crap signal but will showup how bad the panels can be.
I may be being over critacle, but I want to know when sky strats to play up it will still look ok.
What I do when I find a tv that I like is get them to stick a dvd and some HD content on it as well to see how good it can be.

KDL40W2000, it might be a bit too big for us.
Is it the latest model, the w series, do you mind me asking how much did you pay for yours? I am checking the KDL32V2500, cheapest at digisaurus at £780/KDL32S2530 cheapest at Dixons for £678 I guess, they are old models, cannot tell the difference between these two except the price. Any advice please, may be a 37 ins but sony does not seem to do 37 ins? Thanks
