orange retention broadband plus £9.99

Hiya, i tried to get my mac code from orange today as was about to switch to BT.
But orange have offered my this retention package for £9.99 for aslong as i stay with them.

RETENTION Broadband Plus £9.99 - Up to 8 Meg speed, 2GB usage allowance, includes Wireless and Talk

This includes evening and weekend calls and reduced rate mobile calls via a smartbox, it will also allow me to go wireless.
The only down side i can see is i have to be in a 12 month contract again.
Can anyone advise me, i havent heard of this package before, is anyone else on this?
Proud to be DEBT FREE AT LAST

  • I am a long serving Orange customer (well i was!)

I have been with them from the days of Freeserve

I would refuse their retention package as I think you should get out QUICK - my broadband has been absolutely rubbish since the wanadoo rebranding.

Yes there offering 8meg, my connection should have been that too, I was only getting 2.6 meg and only 0.1meg (yes 0.1meg) during evenings and weekends

After a right farce with their so calle dtechnical support and loads of hassle getting a MAC code, I am pleased to say I'm free of them now and my Be* Broadband is due to be activated on April 24th!

    Good Luck

    Hi
Im with orange too & paying £14.99 a month. Since i got my new laptop Ive found, that its been pretty slow, but I assumed it was down to my laptop!

Could it actually be that Im not getting 8meg! Its all a bit too technical for me, so wouldnt know how to find that out. But it interested me, as I was already thinking of switching to talk talk.

Suggestions, on how I could find out about the whole meg thing? Im assuming CS/tech support wont tell me, will they?

Otherwise, will try & get this retention pachage for the time being (will save a fiver!)

    Thanks x

I'm with Eclipse and on the Taskbar there is an icon of a computer and if you move the mouse over it, it shows the Speedtouch connection speed of 5.3 Mbps and sent and rec bytes

Aha.Just had a look at it says -

    Speed: 11.0 Mbps

    What does this mean??

this means your wireless connection to the wireless router is at a speed of 11Mb - nothing to do with the broadband speed

There are many speed tests on the net. Try this one here.

my SIL is very interested in this as she has an orange contract phone £30 a month and bt phone, and her eldest daughter lives in spain so it will be very usefull for her in that repect, as she can call her daughter for free in spain and all her family live down south so it'll be handy for that to,
I think its a really good offer best I have seen so far, wish 3 did something like this,
