birthday hamper help please

Hi, I'm trying to put together a hamper for a friend of mine its her birthday in a few weeks time. I already have a large basket (the kind you use to collect cut flowers in the garden as she's a keen gardener and loves cutting flowers from her own garden for display in the house), a bottle of bubbly, a bottle of a cheaper version of Molton Brown's Naranji liquid soap ( I discovered this by accident but it looks like MB and smells like it too for a fraction of the price but still in a posh bottle). What else could I put in it? Had thought about one side being 'foodie' including the bubbly and the other side 'pampering' with the soap and a few other treats. Any ideas? And if people agree about a basket divided into two how best to do this?

  • Hi unixgirluk

I think your idea of the basket sounds great so far! :T

Can I ask where you got the cheaper version of "Molton Brown's Naranji liquid soap" from? I LOVE this stuff, and would be very interested in getting a cheaper version of it, if it's any good........ :D

Back to the basket for your friend.......I'm not sure you need to separate it......maybe put some flowers or a plant in the middle of the basket, then goodies either side?

    HTH :)

Its Baylis and Harding handwash. They do mandarin and grapefruit, green thai and black pepper and ginseng. Only know Naranji and Thai Vert from MB which are definitely the first two. These are available in Tesco for 1.99 for 500ml (I think might be larger) size. Internacionale (Au Naturale) also stock them for 2 quid each but they also have the matching hand and body lotion.

If she likes cut flowers, how about some packets of seeds or bulbs? Perfect time of year to plant and cut in the summer. Or a book about cut flowers from the Book People etc? May be able to get hold of some reduced priced chocolate from Easter? You can always check out the reduced section at Boots. I'm totally addicted to that little corner and got some fantastic bargains this weeked including a £20.00 National Trust tea for 2 set reduced from £20.00 to £3.75, double photo frames reduced from £10.00 to £2.00 with Bogof, so actually only a £1.00. Used my advantage points and got the lot for free without much of a dent in the points!! Good luck!

Thats its though weird the pic says sweet mandarin and grapefruit and the pull down menu lists them separately.

There are loads of ideas for contents for the Pampering side of things in the Stickied Index at the top of the first page of the forum.

Your hamper sounds great so far :) How about a small tool such as a trowel, fork or gardening gloves? Wilkinsons had some in quite cheaply when I went in last week?

No Wilkos up here I'm afraid but I could try Poundland, thanks for the tip, gardening gloves never go wrong.

    Gladioli bulbs (1.00)
pack of seeds of 6 different plants (1.00)
bottle of plant food pellets (1.00)

How about getting some plants just before you give her the hamper? Get some that usually don't survive the winter like basil(well mine never survives at any rate) and parsley?
Or if she has hanging baskets then get some hanging basket food and water retention crystals, they always come in handy...
On a cheaper note how about seeds? There is still time to plant things like sweatpeas so a pack of those seeds from Tesco or £-shop?

Plants are a good idea but I need something I can buy in advance as she's quite difficult to get a hold of (she self-employed so if she gets work, she works). Might see about getting some herbs seeds though. Have added a bottle of her favourite Avon body spray to the collection (1.25). Total spent so far 7.24.
