Cannot remember the name of it but it can be found in most supermarkets,(Morrisons i know for sure as i bought some recently), its actually a pinky red powder that comes in the paper sachets you get down the same aisle as all the bread sauce, cheese sauce mixes.
Once you sprinkle it over your desired piece of meat to marinate it turns into the gloopy red stuff we all love, should only cost about 60p a packet.

Is that char sui?Softstuff- Officially better than 0070

If it it sticky it must be Char Sui sauce. I can be found in most large supermarkets in the chinese section. I've never seen it in sachets locally - only in jars or cans. Wing Yip is a good brand.
You are probably more likely to find Hoisin than Char sui sauce but you can still use that to make your own - there are loads of recipes on the net but basically you will need hoisin, yellow or black bean paste, sherry, five spice powder and honey - plus a few other ingredeints that I cant remember.NSD 0/150 -

Barbecue Sauce from Shirley Goode. The Goode Kitchen
2 tablespoons Soy Sauce
2 tablespoons Honey
2 tablespoons Plum Jam
2 tablespoons Tomato Puree or ketchup
1 tablespoon Vinegar
1 teaspoon Worcester Sauce
1 teaspoon dry Mustard powder
Blend all the ingredients in a pan over a low heat and bring to the boil. This can then be stored in a sterilized screw top jar in the fridge until needed. If you want to use it as a marinade use more vinegar.
I make this several times during the summer and if I haven’t had the jam I’ve used marmalade instead, I also use cider or wine vinegar.0 -
I have a chinese style spare rib recipe - if thats the sort of sauce you are after i can post it for you - it takes a while to make, but is really easy, and tastes better than the ready made sauces!!!!0

Ok, here it is - not sure where i got it from, i find recipes we like and then write them out in a little book!!!
2lb meat (i use spare ribs, pieces of pork or chicken pieces)
6 tbsp soy sauce
6 tbsp sugar
3 tbsp wine (i normally use red, but you could use either)
2 tsp ginger (i use ground ginger)
1 onion, peeled and quatered
1 1/2 pts water.
Put all the ingredients in a pan, bring to the boil then simmer for 45 minutes, turning the meat occasionaly. Turn up the heat, and boil for 20 - 30 minutes uncovered to reduce the sauce - it will become thick and syrupy.0
