Urgently Need To Sell Car!

Hi I urgently need to sell my RX8 but I have got to get the maximum amount of money for it because I need every penny to put towards a house I am buying.

It is a Black RX8 192 06reg, one lady owner 7100 miles in mint condition. It is still under warranty which also includes free breakdown cover until May 2009. It also has the following added extras: fins, rotary crest and reversing sensors.

I need to have sold it at the very very latest by the end of April. I am having it valeted next week ready to put on sale. My concerns though are whether it is best to sell it privately OR sell it back to a Mazda dealership.

I have looked on Ebay and Autotrader, I have so far found that cars for similar age and mileage vary from £15000-£17000. I know selling privately is the best option to get the most money but I am unsure whether I should in case I do not get a serious buyer with a proper offer in the time schedule available.

My other option of selling it back to the Mazda garage where I bought it from (or any other Mazda dealer) worries me because how do I go about getting the best price from them???

Has anyone got any tips or advice, it would be greatly appreciated.

Any late registered car will be harder to sell as a 'straight' deal, as most people will have a part exchange & probably need finance.

Your Mazda dealer will be best option - at least you're pretty certain not to get dodgy cheques, or any comebacks.

The other option would be to find an independent dealer, willing to sell on a commission basis, but you'd need to know that he's OK with your £$£$, too.

If you are not trading in the dealer will not give you a great price, but well worth asking them hoaw much they would give you. Try asking at a couple of dealerships.

You also want to check what they are selling similar models for. So if they offer you £12k and are selling for £17k then somewhere between £14k and £15k would seem appropriate (I haven't a clue but this is just toet you thinking)

I would then stick it in Auto Trader for a few weeks (don't try and be greedy most folk think there beloved car is worth more than folk are willing to pay). If you have no luck you can always fall back on the dealer.

    Good luck

Difficult one, if you still have finance outstanding on it, that makes it more tough to sell privately. I would go down the dealer/trader route makes loads of phonecalls to various dealers and see what price they offer. Try some down South as well as Midlands/North. Be prepared to drive it to the dealer.

Of course the FASTEST & safest way is auction.

But use http://www.british-car-auctions.co.uk or https://www.manheimeurope.co.uk for a professional service.

Expect a selling price of around £13500 going by current acheived figures. They will probably negotiate on their selling fee, but £450 wouldn't be excessive.

Whichever route you take, do hi-lite any extras the car has, to potential buyers.

  • Hi I've been along to the local Mazda dealer where I bought my RX8 from and discussed selling it back. I managed to speak to the same salesman who I bought it from and I do have a good customer relationship with him.

He said in April* they will buy it back for £14500 (book price) or I can sell it on their pitch later in April for £16995 and they would take their commission and I would get rest. But my problem is that time is not something I can afford.

    * they cannot buy it back yet because they have got a lot of part-ex's to shift due to amount of 07reg's they sold.

He strongly recommended that I place it in Autotrader and see what happens and if nothing after 2wks then he will help us out. I think I shall follow his advice.

Try Auto Trader's sister publication, Top Marques (https://www.topmarques.co.uk), too.

Would also put a free ad on https://www.pistonheads.com, most of the cars sold on there are performance type of cars and seem to sell pretty well in priced correctly. I sold my Mazda 3 Sport privately a few months ago, got about £1k more than the Mazda dealership would offer and sold to the first person came round. For payment, ended up meeting the buyers at my bank and who then handed over all £9k in cash over to the cashier - great way of doing it - felt safe and at least the bank would check any notes etc. Everybody happy and once all paid in account, handed over the keys and filled in the transfer form for the vehicle. I would also suggest posting on the rx8forum website, you never know you might get lucky!
