Good for the environment & MoneySaving - 4 batteries plus charger for a possible £7

What's the deal?

Amazon has slashed 50% off the cost of its Uniross battery charger*, which includes four AA batteries (but is also compatible with AAA & PP3), from £14.49 to £7.29. Now considering four re-chargable batteries alone cost around the £10 mark, this is quite a respectable price.

BUT, of course as it's Amazon, a sole purchase of this means you have to pay delivery - in this case, it's a hefty £6ish. Yet if you spend over £15 in total delivery is free, so if you've got something else to buy, its well worth doing so.

If you're not purchasing anything else from Amazon

An alternative Uniross charger (incl. four batteries) is available at the electrial website Ryness for £10.94 incl. delivery.

If buying from Amazon: Don't forget the four little tips

There are several tips to consider when purchasing from Amazon to maximise potential savings. These are discussed in this thread, which is also awash with impressive Amazon knowledge from other MoneySavers.

Good for the environment and MoneySaving too

With the on-going debate to lower pollution, not only is using re-chargable batteries good for the environment, but it also diminishes the cost of frequently re-purchasing new batteries.

I've recently stocked up on batteries from Component-Shop (www.component-shop.co.uk) and would definitely recommend them.

    For comparison with the above deal, they have a USB 9hr charger + 4 x 2700mAh NiMH AAs for £6.75 + £1 P&P

AAs (2700mAh NiMH) on their own are £4.25 for 4, or £4.00 if you buy 5 or more packs

They also do better chargers - I went for one at £11.99 that charges 4 AAs independently, in 4 hrs. It also has -dV (negative delta V) protection - I would recommend this, as it this detects when each cell is charged and cuts off automatically, which is much better for the batteries, as it ensures they are fully-, but not over-charged.

Green up to a point..............10's of thousands of rechargable batteries are thrown away every year..........all that nickel cadmium is far more dangerous in the ground than zinc carbon...and as for lithium-iron.......and nickell metal-hydride.............no wonder cabbages glow in the dark........

If one rechargable battery took the place of 1000 ordinary batteries (like the advertising states) "this battery can be recharged approx 1000 times",then this may be a greener alternative...........but if you can, or have ever recharged one of these batteries more than 100 times i would be extreemly surprised.
