I cancelled my 3G contract and it expires today. Just had a phone call from 3G call centre saying that as I'd had my phone for 18 months they were sorry I was leaving and would I like to keep the phone for another year with 500 mins a month and 180 texts free of charge. No line rental no payments just free for a year.. Course I would like it, but being sceptical I called them back on their own phone number taken from my bill and checked.
The call centre said yes it was right. They kept saying that it was worth £370. I kept saying is it completely free no bills they said yes absolutely free. I put my husband on the phone , he asked them again they said yes absolutely free.
Has anyone else out there had a call like this. The reason i'm sort of falling for it is a colleague rang Vodaphone to cancel her contract and they reduced her bill to £8 a month for the same minutes and sent her a new phone. But free? Have I been scammed. They are are definately from 3G.
I've cancelled my direct debit so the can't access my bank account and they'll get short shrift if they send me a bill, but i don't want the hassle if its a scam.

Could be true - they offer good retention deals - check that it is a 12 month contract though and the name of the tariff. They are not good at connning you if they are giving you that many minutes and texts for free!
See http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=373036 for discussions relating to some of their retention deals.
You are the second to report a really good retention deal this month (another on the other thread) - last month the most I and others got was 100 mins/100 texts - in my case free for 10.5 months and a free Sony Ericson phone. Not a bad deal but I would have snapped their hand off for your deal!
Deal or No Deal ... I would deal if it is free for all the contract - if you don't like it, nothing lost and you can get another phone/deal from elsewhere and not use it!
Make sure it is the network 3 direct - just phone 333 from your Three handset.

Thanks anon i've dialed 333 and it is them. I have also been reading the thread you pointed to. Had no idea they did this I hardly use the mobile so was giving it up. Looks like i've got 500 minutes plus 100 texts on 3 talk & text (£370 credit) Will check the credit on the phone tomorrow and ask them to put it in writing just to make sure.0

Damn, i phoned them last night...and couldnt get a deal anywhere as good as this one. Do you think this is new for today...has anyone else had any luck getting this one this week?0

Rang to cancel today and got offered a £210 credit and free K880i on my 3 £35pm contract (400 mins 250 texts). I accepted. Wish I'd held out for a bit more now!
Just wondering how long people have been 3 customers for to see if it affects their offers.0 -

From the reports that I've been receiving from the users of my site it would seem that their policy is to only blink at the very last minute i.e. a day or so before the cancellation takes effect. So, if you were to ask for a retention deal any earlier than this you would likely get offered much less.
However, if you were to simply turn down their best offer and request to go ahead with the cancellation, you may well receive a phone call a day or two before the cancellation kicks in.
I guess that they're hoping that many of their customers are just bluffing them.

I've just got the same deal. It's legit.
I called for a pac code last weekend, and refused all of their original offers. On thursday they called back and offered me 12 months on T&T600 - 500min 100 text, free for a year, via an upfront credit on the account, but no new phone.
To see the changes have been applied go to "your account" on the three wap site, I'm now on T&T600 as a result. All my views are my monkey's views. I give advice on behalf of my pet monkey and do I give banana related advice. All my posts are my monkey's opinion and no-one else's.0 -
I had the same experience. I asked for a PAC and did nothing for 3 weeks. Then they called me and offered me 17 months free with 500 xnet anytime mins and 100 txtx. The 18th month I pay £18. That's it.0
