How easy is it to buy & upgrade the RAM on Dell laptops after purchase?
£94 seems like a lot of cash for an extra 256mb.

Crucial offer a 256 mb chip at £27.61 incl postage. (see the discount code board for 4% off) Potential saving against dell's £94 upgrade is £66.39. They also have a 512 mb chip at £54.04 (postage paid) less 4%.

I don't know about Dell ones but on any laptops I've upgraded in the past, it's been a screwdriver/open case type job...

There is £100 off the standard price and free delivery for another two days (i think) so thats worth a further £57. I gave around £580 for mine a months ago so that sounds about right. Also for a few quid more than some of the basic machines that are on the go, you are getting a very decent machine.

Not sure on the pros and cons of the extra RAM. I bought mine with a standard 256Mb and the spec if perfect for surfing and word processing and watching the odd DVD - though i am sure that is by no means stressing the machine.

It's very easy to upgrade - just open up a little flap underneath & slot in the memory.

Dells memory / accessory prices are extortionate - that's how the clawback the profits on the low base spec prices.

Did you remember to go for the basic warranty of 1year?

I just tried going through the process (just to see) and ended with 1.5 Pentium M 715a processor system for £474.44

I used the code given by pgilc1 by the way which worked (follow instructions in first post)
