There was an article in the Guardian estimating its value at £30m  - and that was when site and the email list was much, much smaller than now.

But I think Martin clarified in a post that that figure would only be if you threw away the ethical stance of the site and went more commercial.

And hopefully Martin will not have to change his policy or sell out to the commercial sector. If that did happen the site would become useless as whoever owned it would be in it for profit.

Its nice too see that Martins savvy mind has made him a multimillionaire (if only on paper?) but I guess he gets a lot out of this site and it certainly hasnt hurt his media exposure ;)

So, significantly devaluing the site. The Heisenberg principle of money saving?

Werner Karl Heisenberg was a German physicist. He came up with his famous uncertainty principle. One day, he asked his accountant, “How much am I worth?” His accountant duly came back with a figure. But, poor Heisenberg found he couldn’t be certain of this figure, because he was still waiting for the bill from his accountant. He had a lovely accurate list of his assets, but now knew less about his debts. This is often described as: trying to measure something changes the thing being measured.
