MARCH 2007 GROCERY CHALLENGE
Hi All :hello:
Welcome to the grocery challenge. The aim is simple....to reduce your bill as much as you comfortably can. Some people include toiletries and some include petrol as well it is entirely up to you.
For everybody that is new to the challenge it is a good idea to keep all your reciepts for a months shopping and total it up at the end. It will shock most of you it certainly did me
Next month and every month afterwards try reducing your bill a little at a time until you find a comfortable level.
Things that seem to help are...
Menu planning, link for it http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=346932 (thanks to Penelope Penguin)
Bulk cooking and freezing.
There are lots of recipes found here to help you http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?p=458838#post458838 (thanks to Judi & Squeaky)
There is lots of advice and help to be found here so don't be shy and keep posting. Remember no questions are silly.
Good Luck to all of us

I'm going to stick with the equivalent of £20 a week, so that's £88.66 for the month. However I'm going to include the £15 of luncheon vouchers that I have this time, and see if we can get it to come in under budget including them.
Meal planning and grocery shopping tonight for us, need to time it right though as we're running out of bread and I see little point in paying full price for sliced bread that is just going to go in the freezer and be used for toast when tesco reduce it to 10p.Debts: Mum £3923 0% APR0 -
..my Feb wasn't good, so busy working I didn't spend time budgetting. It also messed me up because I need to come on here regularly to keep myself motivated. At least I earned more than usual! I'm looking forward to a nice clean sheet.
Aiming for £200 food/all supermarket stuff and £200 everything else for family of 4 and the cats. That can't be SO hard, can it?? Shopping at Tesco.com, to keep an eye on running total in the basket, which works for me-also, no children hanging onto the trolley begging for junk food then.
Good luck everyone.0 -
Ok my food budget for march is going to be £60 as i still have alot fo stuff form last month left over - we dont seem to have eaten a lot so i think it will just mostly be topping up things we need so £60 should be fineTime to find me again0

Can I join in? We're going for £200 this month - for everything. There's five of us (2 adults & 3 under 4s).
Have been tackling grocery budget on my own, but reached a kind of sticking point, so hoping this will motivate me to get going again!

Hi all,
I have tried this challenge before and failed miserably, but if at first.....!
So I am going to go for £300 this month, this will include toiletries, food and cleaning stuff for 4 adults.
Good luck everyone.Olympic Bronze Challenge Target £1007
Started 7/1/07 - Total so far £713.660 -

Om my gosh - what a challenge! There are 5 of us - DD's and DS eat adult portions so it is really feeding 5 adults. DS has school lunches, DS's take packed lunch. I have purchased a slow cooker so am going to have a go at cooking a ham instead of buying processed stuff.
I reackon I spend about £120 per week on food (if I knew how to do it I would enter one of those blue shocking symbols here) so I am going to try and come in at under £100 per week this month. I realise that some of you will be horrified at this but I will start slowly and build up!!!0 -
i went over budget last month, i think mainly due to a too big trip to the supermarket. the freezer is still pretty full and so are the cupboards so should need a lot less this month!
my budget will be £80 in cash, including toiletries (not that there will be much spend there!) OH not actually here for the weekend until the end of the month (and then we're at a wedding!) so should be a lot easier as i tend to spend a lot more on the weekend he's here as he's more fussy.....
i'm hoping i can do it, and that having the cash in my purse will make it easier!Mum to gorgeous baby boy born Sept 2010:j0
