Couldn't open Alliance & Leicester cash isa today

I tried to open an A & L cash ISA on the internet and got the message that as it was getting near the year end I could only open one at a Branch. Went to Worthing Branch and was told that to open the ISA I would have to book an interview with an adviser and as they were so busy it was doubtful that they could fit me in before the year end. So I went for abbey postal ISA at 5.35%. Can't imagine what A & L Head Office would think of this service!

I was interested in opening one and sent A&L a query via their 'contact us' link on their website. That was ten days ago and I'm still awaiting any sort of response.

It does seem that A&L do not want the hassle of opening accounts for customers!

count yourself lucky the abbey is better than the alliance and leicester in my opinion because of the £25 transfer charge that A&L have hidden in there.

I have to say I think this follows on from the 'reaping what we sow' discussion that I think Ivan mentionned.

Which of these would you prefer?
    a) Building society realises it hasn't got the staff/resources available to satisfy demand from new customers for a popular account. Therefore stops taking applications.
    b) Building society takes as many applications as it can but then due to demand service becomes poor for existing and new customers, and there are many c**ckups in the process.

You appear to be moaning that A&L didn't choose b. Personally I think it's a credit to them that they chose a. Still their transfer out fee will not be luring me....
