Changes to the display of eBay.co.uk listings on eBay.com (merged)

Options
some changes.....
For several years, items listed on eBay.co.uk have also appeared in the default search results on eBay.com, our US site. As eBay.co.uk has grown over time, the volume of items listed on eBay.co.uk that appear on eBay.com can make it difficult for US-based buyers to find and buy the items they want.

We are currently testing different options for displaying UK-listed items on eBay.com, with the aim of balancing the needs of buyers with the visibility of items listed on eBay.co.uk. As a result, items listed on eBay.co.uk will no longer be guaranteed to appear within the default search results on eBay.com. This is consistent with the current search settings on eBay.co.uk, which do not show items listed on other eBay sites by default.

Any seller who wishes to ensure that their listings appear in the default search results on eBay.com will need to list those items directly on the eBay.com site. Please note that such listings will not be eligible for any pricing promotions run on eBay.co.uk

    So, more money for ebay.
  • Thanks for that info.:D

I started listing directly on ebay.com a couple of months ago because i found that my UK listings weren't getting a very wide coverage overseas. With the exchange rate I have actually paid less (only a little!) in listing fees, but I haven't quite got to grips with when US buyers do their surfing!

Does anyone know if there is any sort of pattern they follow? Seems to me they don't do much at weekends - most purchases seem to come in the week from office addresses....

Actually less money for eBay. Fewer US and Canadian bidders on items listed on ebay.co.uk (that they can't buy there or aren't cheap there) - translates to lower closing prices and less FVFs for eBay UK.

The main reason for filtering out UK listings is to prevent US sellers listing their media items (CDs, DVDs, video games, books, etc.) cheaply on ebay.co.uk after 1st March, but still getting exposure to their home US market.

Mind you given the weakness of the USD, many sellers find it more profitable to concentrate on other markets like the EU and Japan.

That assumes that sellers won't list on both sites, which is, I suppose, a fair assumption in a proportion of cases.

If that's the case why then does china and hong kong frequently come up in searches on uk ebay?!

Because they are listed through the UK site.

because they have been listed on ebay.co.uk...but item location is/or shipped from overseas.

This may come as a blow to international users like myself.
From now on even if you state your items are to be available internationally ebay will not garauntee that they will show up on their US database.

  • I sell quite a lot to the U.S. and Canada, so it may be a blow - but, interesting to note, they don't say that the items WILL NOT appear on .com, just that they can't guarantee it. Might it be a bit of a spoof to see how many sellers start to list on both, thereby incurring double fees?

Well we wont be able to list the same items on both at the same time for obvious reasons so I doubt if their intention is to make us pay twice over for the sdame listing.
Personally I find their attitude ludicrous. I cant believe that they have thought it through properly or even consulted buyers or sellers to find out their opinions first.
Its just another example of their playing god without giving a toss as to who they may be upsetting.
Who of us can challenge the almighty all powerful dominating, monopolising company with their take it or leave it attitudes
