You might qualify for financial assistance. I think it depends on the amount of points the course is worth.
Give the open university a ring I have always found them lovely people to talk to.0 -
You may get some assistance buying a computer if your course states you need one.0

See following thread (page34, post #670 onwards), has few people who study on OU.
They may be able to help.

The OU has a self assessment questionnaire which should be able to give you an immediate indication as to your eligibility for financial help.

Hope the answer is positive!0 -
You should get some help towards study. Our household income is a little more than yours, and we got some help towards courses. Here I go again on my own....0

thank you all, yes I can get money towards the courses, but i've seen on here about the money for 16+ yrs staying on at school, and a new one for Adult learners so wondered if there was anything like that. Although the money for the courses is essential, we need money for food too!0

Where do you stay? If it's Scotland, you can get an annual payment of £200 from ILA Scotland towards the cost of certain courses if you are over 18 and your own personal income is less than £15000 per year ( husband's income doesn't matter ).

This extra money is only for people on full time courses. As most people study with the OU part time, the assumption is that they're maintaining themselves by some other means ( job, benefits etc.) and therefore the funding applies only to study costs and not to maintenance.0 -

You'll can now pay for OU courses using Tesco Clubcard vouchers. There are lots of tricks to boost your clubcard points on the Vouchers Board, plus, you can usually buy clubcard vouchers on ebay for about half what they are worth in vouchers - so you effectively get the course half price.
Good luck with your studies0
