RO Help Here

Options
What is an "RO" list? "RO" stands for "Running Out", and is simply a list of items that are no longer for sale in the current Argos catalogue - one of the few ways to get a list of ex-catalogue items for sale is for a member of staff to print off a list from their computers. Some members of staff are happy to do this for non-staff, others are very possessive. Argos seem to have different "rules" depending on which branch you go into, which is why we've been collating a list of all the code numbers discovered.

Where are the lists? A couple of times a year, prior to the launch of their new catalogue, Argos now put RO stock online (however, only the RO stock that has become newly surplus to requirements). The online stock is not available to view for long though - maybe a couple of months or so. Therefore, as new items are discovered, they are being collated here.

How do I get an RO item? There are two ways to get an RO List item - either via telephone or actually in-store. YOU WILL NOT be able to purchase any of these items from the Argos website (apart from a few exceptions that are actually online here).

To purchase an item via telephone, you can either use the Argos "ring and reserve" service (which is a fully automated service - no humans involved), or ring a particular Argos store direct.

The Argos automated "ring and reserve" number is 0870 6001010 (but go here then to the help pages for alternative, cheaper ways to call!).

Once you are through to the "ring and reserve" line, you will need to press the "*" key twice, then either listen to the blurb, or press the "*" key again to bypass. Then press 1 for stock enquiries, put in the 3 digit store code, then the 7 digit item reference. Once you get used to the system, you can just go ahead and press the buttons - you don't have to wait for the prompt to press the buttons.

To find the 3 digit store code, you can either do a search for Argos on www.yell.co.uk and the last three digits of their 0845 telephone number is the store code. Or, a far superior site is BT Directory Enquiries website, which will give you the branch number of the store you requested, and all nearby stores, together with full address and phone number. And if you're not sure where a store is, they can show you a map as well!!

To ring a specific store direct - simply ring the 0845 number listed. If no-one answers and it goes through to an automated menu, select option "2" twice to get put through to someone. Outside of store hours, this is also a cheap way of getting through to the "ring and reserve" number, as after approximately 20 rings it will automatically divert.

Customer services telephone number is 0870 6003030, which will get you through to a real person - they can check country-wide for a particular item for you, although they're not infallible.

If you want to see what an item is, click the link next to it on the RO List website, which will take you through to another website (or go to http://www.netshoppinguk.co.uk/argos-shopping/ and put in the seven digit code at the end of the web address in the browser address bar, so that it looks something like: help.h1.gif).

More information can be found at the RO List website - and if you can't find the answer to your question, feel free to ask!! :)

As far as I knew, and I have worked at Argos off and on over the last four years - RO stands for Running Out.

Conversely new line items may be designated "RI".

Argh!!! And just when I thought we had all agreed!! Does anyone have a printout of an RO list? Does it say on top what the letters stand for by any chance?!

No and no. As far as I know they just say "RO STOCK FOR STORE XXX" or something along the top.

To be honest I couldn't say for sure if I've ever seen the defenition written anywhere - I was told it was "running out" and I don't think I ever heard anything to the contary. Although come to think of it I vaguely recall reading something about "runoff stock" but until I read that above I never realised that RO might stand for anything other than "running out"

So to be honest, I don't really know. Maybe it's one, maybe it's the other, maybe it's both. Staff generally just use RO - stock can be "RO", be "going RO", "RO Cat 59" (RO, last featured in catalogue 59); you "move the RO stock to the top shelf during the rebin", you can ask someone where something is or what it is and you will an answer involving "oh, that's RO, it'll be...". So maybe nobody really knows the answer... :D But anyway it doesn't really matter!

If you mean you want to see a picture of it - first place would probably be https://www.netshoppinguk.co.uk/argos-shopping/????? (where the "????" are replaced with the 7 digit item code).

If that doesn't work, if you have a specific name or model number, you can always do a search in your web browser - hopefully someone else may have stock, a review, etc.

The RO lists are now offline and not updated, as apparently all items (?) are now available to view in the regular Argos "Clearance Sales".
