in Credit cards
Hi, I don't have much credit history, really struggled to get a credit card, in the end my bank gave in (after many calls!) I've got a Natwest Mastercard.
My 0% has just run out, I don't have anything outstanding or debts that need transfering, but i'd like a new credit card with 0%.
I've had my current one 6 months and have read that 6 months is a good amount of time to build up a rating, but I've just signed up to a contract phone, which had problems when doing a credit check & they had to take a deposit.
I have had my credit report & there is nothing bad on there.
Is this the right time to apply for another CC, or shall I wait another 6 months?

Provided your report looks alright and there has been only one check, it shouldnt happen. The worst that can happen is that you will be turned down and try again in six months anyway.
Making significant numbers of applications in a short period of time is bad, but I would say 2 is fine.
Are you on electoral role etc as this will affect your application.0 -

I don't really know.
When I enquired how good my credit rating needed to be, they said they do a credit check, but if there is any problems with that they have to take £5 out of my bank to verify everything.
When I ordered my phone online, it said 'processing order', then 'there has been a problem, we will need to take £5 from your bank account' then I had to enter all my bank details, then they gave me the phone!!
Something must be making them question my ability to borrow then repay!
My credit report was fine though!I'm getting older, and lifes getting harder!:mad:0 -
You had a 0% credit card for 6 months and then cancelled it. The Credit Card Company did not make much profit from your custom. What you did was quite legal and to some extent financially astute. However the credit card companies may be financially astute too. Just as we can choose our credit card providers, at least to some extent, so credit card companies can choose their customers...0

I failed a credit check at Phones4U last October despite having a contract with them for a year previously with a perfect track record.
It was the 1st time I was rejected in about 5 years for anything credit related.
He simply said Phones4U can't offer you anything at all, he all but asked security to remove me from the shop.
I took my custom elsewhere and was accepted no problems. Sometimes their(lenders) criteria is not meant to make senseWell life is harsh, hug me don't reject me.0 -
