Gift Basket for Hospital Stay??

Hi All,

Not entirely sure this is the right forum to be posting in but it seems nearest.

I have a close friend going into hospital next month for a serious op. A complete hyterectomy. She has 3 kids under 4 at home that I will be helping her husband to look after but I wanted to be able to do something for her too.

I was thinking some sort of gift basket for while she is in hospital. She has to be in for 6 days after the op and then she has been told it will be at least an 8 week recovery period.

Any ideas of what to include??

So far I am thinking;

*some magazines
*some nice hand cream
*a pen and sudoku book
*a bag full of change for the phones

Can any of you help me add to this???

HUGE thanks,
Allison.

Aww, your poor friend ((hugs)) hope the op goes well.

Ok, I did this last summer and in addition to the items you've thought of, here are some more:-

~ disposable knickers (maternity section, Boots)
~ large sanitary towels - none of your skimpy winged stuff!
    ~ Andrex moist toilet tissue
~ dry shampoo (reaching up and around to wash hair is a nightmare!)
~ spray cologne so she can freshen up when initially she may not feel like a shower/bath
    ~ Magazines
~ work out a rota for visitors for her
~ plenty of fresh fruit to nibble on (plus fibre ;) )

I'll come back when I think of more.

Pack of wet wipes/face cleanser cloths?

Some on BOGOF in Mr Ts and you could use the MO coupons in the Quit packs at the pharmacy.

  • A nice mug, just had a hospital stay myself and missed a decent cup to drink out of. Blackout eye mask would have been helpful, as would some instant capacinno type drinks, sometimes you want to pamper yourself.

Snacks in case the hosptial food is rank, or she simply doesn't fancy it.

I was in two days after my eldest was born and the meals were awful, so I survived my Mam bringing a packed lunch in, and things like individually wrapped muffins and cake bars.

Some lip balm to stop her lips cracking when she can't drink before and just after the op.
Here I go again on my own....

if she has a mobile phone she'll probably be allowed to use it on the ward

body moisturiser - it's so hot and dry in hospital your skin needs all the help it can get - maybe a spray version so she doesn't have to reach
eye mask and ear plugs (if anyone's been on a flight recently they may have a freebie one spare)

Some nice pj's, slippers etc? When I went into hospital for an op in December, I bought some new pj's especially!! Also, one of those patientline cards. It is flipping expensive but it can be a right pain trying to find a machine when you aren't very mobile to buy them from.

Also, a nice fluffy hand towel, travel size body, hair stuff. Take a sneaky peak in her bathroom to see what types she uses i.e. dry hair, normal etc.

definatly a mug hospital cups are usualy either
the small ones or the plastic disposable ones.

Wet wipes are handy too. Also Boots do some
lovely facial wipes in their Botanics range £2.99
when you buy them they have an offer running
presently, where you buy any botanics product you can
    pick any moisturiser free.

Might be handy to give her a bottle of Evian
water,I remember when I first wanted a drink
after my op,just fancied little sips of water and the
    hospital water provided tasted disgusting.

A nice body spray,a scrunchie & some shower gel

A bit controversial, but how about a pack of anti-bacterial kitchen/bathroom wipes? Sometimes, no matter how hard the staff try things just aren't clean enough for you, or is that just the Monica comming out in me? I took a pack in with me when I had my son & after seeing the bathrooms was damn glad I did!

Also a good book, a pair of cheap plastic flip flops for the shower, note paper/cards & pen as sometimes filling the time can be difficult & lets face it everyone loves a letter no matter what age they are!
