As web design student, I have to advise anyone not to go near any sites such as Mr Site, Microsoft Front Page & any other packages like this if you want a decent end product.

    Templates are a better idea.

First most free hosting has a low bandwidth limit does not allow e-commerce and fills your site with advertising. Secondly most people are not website students and before you comment check out some of the examples of sites already made. I agree with you about templates and mr site uses them. You can also use any web program you like and paste your html into mrsite. Including flash etc...

Some do yes, but there are are plenty that don't. I have 1gb free space and 30gb traffic ad free (and you can use it for e-commerce) - you just got to look!

I have a site with Mr Site and it was really quick and easy to build and I have had no problems with it whatsoever. Thinking of building another one with them.

It does come with a .com domain name, which would cost something like £9 a year on it's own.
Considering that, it does seem like a good price for reasonable hosting, as long as it's reliable.
  • Have any got a free trial? My partner has a small family business & it has been suggested that I set up a website, i really need to show them a good prototype before they can give me money to buy anything, then hopefully pay me to do it properly

If you are going to get a website you are better off buying your domain name seperate from your hosting. That way the host doesn't have you over a barrel if you ever want to move. Charging large fees to release the name or taking ages to do it. And .com names can be got for as little as £4 with the current exchange rate if you use a US site like namecheap and discount codes. Somewhere like 1&1 offers hosting from 2.34 per month, you would also be able to find templates there or on the web.

Well you would say that wouldn't you ?. If you are likely to make your livelihood in web design of course you would rather people employ you to produce a site than DIY . - I feel the same however your prejudice against Frontpage is irrational but all too common- All programs have their limitations but I know of very experienced professional web designers who use it . I do too.

You can still produce a naff site with the most expensive Dreamweaver or a decent site with free software such as Nvu- it's the what works that counts and good basic web design is not only about how much you spend -
