I don't generally moan about Ntl. I must be one of the lucky ones, having had good service over the last few years.

Moved house in July. Went from ntl to BT for the phone as desperate for caller ID; ntl offered us free broadband installation and half-price monthly rental for a year (£12.50). 4 months down the line and they have increased the DD to £25! No explanation! Phoned them up and they said their auditors had told them they were giving too many discounts, so they have taken a lot of discounts away!

I can't leave ntl broadband as the free installation came with a requirement to stay with them for a year. Can't negotiate to include anything else in the price as I have BT phone and Sky+.

No proof of the offer lasting a year as it was all done over the phone!

Any advice?

Anyone else in the same position?

AFAIK they have changed their side of the deal, so the requirement to stay with them for the remainder of the contract period is void, ie you can get rid of them without any costs. You should be able to ask for the recording of the phone call where the deal was setup, if they can't provide it, they can't prove it wasn't. I would double check the auditor story though it sounds like a load of rubbish.

:rotfl: really funny phone call with ntl today.

Sounded like a call centre a long long way away; very crackly line, heavily accented lady - I had to ask her to repeat everything 3 times.

The long and short of it is apparently deals are only for 3 months, so it couldn't have been for a year - allegedly, so she renewed it for another 3 months.

    the funny part:

She asks for my phone number; I tell her I don't have an ntl phone line only ntl broadband.

She is adamant I must have a phone number, so I give her my old number that was ntl that I've taken back to BT. she seems happy.

She tells me I need to set up a password, I tell her I did have a password but she is adamant that one needs to be set. So we set up the password again.

She talks about my line rental, I tell her there is no ntl line rental. She is adamant there is and talks about call packages. She tells me she's putting me on a better call package!

Eventually she asks me to spell my surname and give her the (non-)phone number again. Turns out she has been looking at the wrong account.:rotfl:

So someone somewhere now has a new call package and a new password!

Dont you just love those Indian call centers.

If they never made you cry, or is that cringe you could laugh it off.

I really hate them and I mean really hate them, I always ask for a UK alternative number now and they normally have one.

Nothing worse than going through a fixed script telling them thats not the problem then ending up not getting any where.

    LOL
