What’s the deal?
MobileSOS is offering a three month trial of its mobile phone panic button service to women and under-18s in East Anglia. All you have to pay is a £1.50 activation fee.
How does it work?
When you press a special button on your mobile, the service sends details of your location to your selected contacts (by email, phone and text). Once a contact acknowledges the panic call, you'll get a text message.
This service normally costs £3 a month, yet MobileSOS is allowing people to try it for £1.50 for three months.
How to get the trial
The offer is open to all women and under-18s living in East Anglia (the offer page says women in Suffolk, but the press office has confirmed that it’s for women and under-18s in East Anglia).
Go here to sign up. You’ll immediately be sent your activation code, allowing you to use the service.
Don't foget to cancel.
This involves setting up a direct debit though, so if you don't want to continue the service, be sure to cancel before your first three months are up - otherwise you’ll be charged another £12.50 each quarter. Why not use the free MoneySavingExpert Tart Alert to get a reminder?

Ive just bought a new phone - samsung x830 and its got this (kind of) built in. You set it up in the menu to send an SOS message, saying "I am in an emergency, please help me."
You have to press the volume up and down buttons 4 times to send it, and it send the message to a preset list of contacts.0 -
but does your service show the location or just an SOS ??0

Nope, just says your in trouble. Helps more than nothing lol! and its free minus the cost of the texts!0 -

... the recipient would then notify the emergency services, who would always be able to work out where your mobile phone is via triangulation, so long as it's still on.0

From their FAQ.
"What happens when an alarm call is triggered?
We take the call, identify where the call was made and then pass on your message and all the details to your nominated contacts. They will receive a telephone message, a SMS text message and also an email so that they can begin to act on your behalf"0 -
Unfortunately it looks rather exploitative, seeing where it comes from, and £50 a year seems rather a lot to spend, especially as 999 calls are free.
I know someone with a burglar alarm on a dedicated SIM; the daily 7 pm test costs 3p.0
