do they accept tesco coups in sainsburys?

Hi folks,

Just a reminder that Fraud is defined as 'obtaining money through deception'. Could we keep all discussions on a non-fraudulent basis; suggestions of re-using vouchers could be construed as breaching the terms & conditions of the companies involved.

Thanks, back to the original post...

Sainsbury wont take Tesco vouchers, but Tesco will take Sainsbury ones. The vouchers have to be £5 off £50 shop etc, not product ones. Friend got rid of 4 X £5 off £50 Sainsbury ones the other day, on a £60 shop.

Well the OP should pm McDonag (who posts on the Tesco misprices forum sometimes).

    He says that he has:

    1. Converted Tesco vouchers to Deals online, gets you 4x value.

    2. Then taken the vouchers to Sainsburys and used them against shopping.

I am defo gonna try this next time, I threw some away last time I converted them to Deals. Obviously they will not scan thru' a Tesco till once converted because of the code on them.

Sainsburys do not have a policy to accept other coupons like Tesco do(without buying the product) but I think it's worth asking, especially now when the big Supermarkets all want the Xmas business.

Just resurrecting this old thread to see if anyone knows the Sainsburys stores that are trialling this please? I know I read somewhere in 2006 that half-a-dozen or so stores are accepting them but can't recall which stores (except Grimsby I think was one of them).

I, for one, am keeping all my Tesco Vouchers even after redemption, just in case I can later use them again at Sainsburys, if they accept them nationally at any time. I know none of the stores mentioned were near me otherwise I would have been there like a shot!

Just to reiterate, DON'T spend Tesco Clubcard money-off vouchers instore (Tesco), DO convert them to Deals online (see Martin's article on this). BUT I suggest then holding on to the paper vouchers instead of binning them as they could still be worth face-value at some Sainsburys stores. This would even be possible if you sell them on eBay as long as you're sending converted Deals to your buyer (and keeping the original vouchers).

Finally, no anti-coupon posts please (it's not fraud or even unethical)! Apparently a few Sainsburys stores are accepting these as a loss-leader, they cannot get any money back from them, they just want to see if they can get Tesco's business. Sainsburys won't care if you've already got Deals from Tesco, as Sainsbury's 'loss' from this experimental policy remains the same either way.

Anyone know which Sainsburys to go to?

  • I know it was mentioned on PTS and someone from my area had phoned around and was told that the local supermarkets would not take the paper tesco clubcard vouchers. I too live in hope so I am keeping mine too.

;) I am the only Voucher Queen in my village LOL ;)
  • Before Christmas I was told that my Sainsburys that is almost next door to Tescos was taking them. Be very interested to see if this works as I have just converted my vouchers!
    Will keep you posted!

  • Hi all, I work in Sainsbury's at the weekend and I can tell you that their is no coupon policy as such other than hardly anyone ever uses them! Occasionally you will get someone who comes through with loads and whereas I scan them all, some of the older ladies are real jobsworth and won't take any. I think it is pot luck whether you get a good one - go for the young looking sat lads!! but I think Tescos vouchers are a definite no unless it states otherwise on a sign because it would definitely result in a superviser being called who would most probably say no.

Nice to hear from a Sainsbury's employee who is friendly and scans coupons! I never give many when I am in there as I know they are not supposed to accept them without the product being bought.

But I always try 2 or 3 plus one on the top that I did buy, and I choose a younger cashier who won't get all holier-than-thou about the 75p saving I am making.

I was pleased to find my Sainsburys had put out new stocks of the Daz with the coupon flash (actually that will be old stock then, but I didn't care!). It was quiet so I spent 5 mins hurting my finger on the metal spouts, finding coupons higher than 50p inside (Health & Safety disclaimer: no blood was shed or powder spilt during the opening of these spouts).

I got 2 fivers and a pound, my best yet, and I already had in my purse 3 x 50p coupons off Daz to use legitimately at the till to buy the boxes

P.S. It really IS true that a few stores DO accept Tesco vouchers as a trial policy, although not katiekins' store. Please post a list of participating Sainsburys stores if you find one!

    :j That's me, a friendly employee lol

I can honestly say in the years I have worked there, I have only come across about 2 people who gave in coupons!

I think it's best to give in a couple of coupons on a big shop, because the tills are so annoying to scan through and see what is bought, nobody will bother :rotfl:
so they should just get taken
