Making a Christmas basket

:hello:
I'm so stumped for ideas for what to get my mum (Age 49 1/2) for Christmas this year, I've decided that I'll MAKE something this year for her: A Christmas basket. I have in mind the sort that contains bath-time stuff and pleasant-smelling things. The main thing that's getting me at the moment is precisely what to put in it. I'm clueless
I do at least have a small basket. It cost me 50p.
It is bowl-shaped, about 11in / 27.5cm in diameter at the top (~2.5in/6cm at the base) and about 3in / 7.5cm in height.
Can anyone give me some suggestions what to put in it? (Perhaps also on the subject of packing?) Does anyone know where to get such ingredients without breaking the bank? (What with this being MSE, afterall
)
Thanks in advance.

Make a label to attach to it marked BATHTIME BUBBLY BASKET
and put in
a loofah/scrunchie
bubble bath
bath bomb
small bottle of bucks fizz
body lotion
candle
Hope that helps....it is not of more importance than daily life, which I have an enduring wish to make as useful and beautiful as possible.

another option is to include something like a book or some music. I certainly know that my mum loves nothing more than a nice long soak with one of her favourite books.Baby Year 1: Oh dear...on the move

would she enjoy the freebie hellmans book on the freebie board?0

You could put a smelly candle in it, there's a lovely Vanilla one in a glass in Asda for £1?0

Look at all the ideas other people have had on this board, there is a separate thread for all the hampers people have made. You will get lots of inspiration there.0

Does your mum wear make up? How about some jewellery, I love costume jewellery but don't often buy it myself and I'm similar age to your mum.0

If you want to make smellies basket what about loafah soaps.
Get a loofah and cut off a slice. Take a glycerine based soap and melt it. Take an empty food tin that is clean. e.g tuna tin put in the loofah and pour the melted soap over. Leave to set and pop out.
I made these for my mum and she thought that I bought them and could not believe that I had made them myself.
A loofah will make a few of these.

That's an excellent idea Calley! Would never have thought of doing that.:T0

how about lining the basket with a towle/flannel/one of those turbie things for your hair?
I id the same kind of thing for my future sil for her birthday a few years ago and now she does the same, we buy all those things that we use everyday that way it saves us money buying it for ourselves, when the money is a bit more available we put in luxury products that we all look at but object to paying out for ourselvesfinally debt free and want to keep it that way!!0 -
Thanks for all the replies so far! :j I'm going to go and collect some ingredients this afternoon and maybe make the loofah soaps. Not sure what I'll use as a mould, though, since I don't facy eating my own weight in tuna in a day. I have thought about a cake tray, but the pits look too small and too shallow to make a decent-sized soap (Though, I could at least make a batch) I think I'll have to buy the loofah and soap and work from there.
The hampers thread is also providing me with some interesting pickings. Especially on the subject of wrapping. I was going to use cling-film.
Please keep any ideas coming! I'll keep you updated with how it's going, if you like.would she enjoy the freebie hellmans book on the freebie board?
She's more of a Len Deighton / Agatha Christie / PD James woman."Peter Pan is 2. Shirley Bassey is 3. Dr Ian Paisley is 4. King Lear is 5. Why?"
