ok so i had a toshiba external usb hard drive that stoppped working for whatever reason, am in the process of getting all the data off it.
seeing as i use it mainly for music video and photos and i need a new one, would i be better getting a media player hard drive that can also hook up to a tv as well as act as a standard external drive??
does anyone have one of these and is it easy enough to use??
a quick search brought up this one.....
http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=99078&TabID=1&source=1&doy=29m11
anyone found a cheaper/better one??
cheers in advance

i'm using a Sumvision Aqua from svp.co.uk Similar setup as the Maplin one but it comes without a hard drive, I just bought a seperate one in the size I wanted, I also have some others lying around so I can swap them in and out if I want to, but normally just leave it with a 250GB drive in . i use it for our little boy so he doesn't need to use a DVD player, has his programmes and DVD's preloaded on it so no need for him to fumble around with discs0

Buy one of these:-
http://www.bigpockets.co.uk/product.php?lang=&product_id=10785&session=c2cd380ca7ad5352916e831ef5282c47#reviews
and stick your own hard disk in it. Works out much cheaper.0 -
The item at CCL has a network port and can be used with or without a hard drive or as NAS (network attached storage)
The item at big pockets is only £37.99 at http://svp.co.uk/products-solo.php?pid=16270 -
thanks for the replies guys much appreciated.
am still unsure as to which to go for,
i think i would prefer one with a hard drive built in, so out of the two i posted which is the best one??
or is it just 6 and 2x3's!0 -
My preference would be for the second one as freecom are a fairly well known name and they provide updates to the machine from their website also I would use the network functions.
You may save a few pounds by buying the freecom one without a hard drive and installing your own drive - if look at the manual on the freecom site it seems straightforward enough
Can I just say I will be holding you personally responsible if I get divorced as I am going to buy one of the freecom units - the purchase being prompted by your original post !0 -
lol at the divorce issue!
you can just watch all the together, thats what i'll be telling the girlfriend anyways.
cheers for your input, i'll be off purchasing the freecom one now.0 -
I've got the Freecom one. It's excellent, best gadget I own (and I've got quite a few gadgets!). Putting in your own hdd is very, very easy
It's quite cheap on pixmania but svp have excellent after-sale support. Remember to check quidco before you decide where to buy it from0 -
Freecom Media players are excellent quality.
We have sold 100's and to my knowledge never had one back.
Hope that helps.

Old thread, I know, but would it be possible that people word their links, ie. say, the Freecom Model ABC123 500GB is at Bazongoes for £100, Link: blah blah. I'm looking for an external Hard Drive/Media Player and I've got no idea what the links above were for, as they're all dead now.
I'll keep searching for more recent info.
