  • This is a good rate, not just for carpetbaggers, but not as good as the Coventry's 5.8% bond.

Why should the Derbyshire merge with anyone and pay a windfall?

It is a little too large to be taken over be a larger society without the larger society having to ask their own members first.

Only Nationwide & Britannia could do that. Nationwide is busy with taking over Portman and Britannia is still integrating Bristol & West.

Are you talking about paying a windfall if they merge with an equal partner? That is possible but it would be a first within my memory.

But then I don't go back as far as you ;).
  • P.S. On the Website it says that the maturity date is 31/11/2007.Do not let that put you off.
Not any more it doesn't, assuming it ever did. A career in proof-reading awaits. ;)

  • Joining the Derbyshire for £100 at 5.75% is rather like having a free raffle ticket so why not join it?

Did you forecast that Portman would merge with Lambeth
Did you forcast that Nationwide would merge with the Portman.
Did you forsee that the Newcastle would merge with the Universal.
    No,no and no!

    You make your point well.

Gutted I missed out on Northern Rock, my account did not qualify at the time.

I'd love Derbyshire to go Plc, as I have just completed my 5 years with them. Moved from the Postal saver (which once paid a decent rate) to the EasySaver tracker account earlier this year.

Could do with a list of carpetbagging targets and recommendations?
