Goals for week commencing 12 November

Options
Good morning moneysavers,

I'm slowly beginning to wonder why it's me who starts these weekly topics, as I'm spectacularly crap at sticking to any of my goals through a combination of laziness, habit and general deglect.

Anyway, here's last week's thread: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=297966

-- Spending below £100
Ah, that old classic. £125.56 this time around. To be fair, it's slowly falling over the last few weeks: £149, £148, £139 and now £125. That's still more than I can afford, though.

I need to get more to the root of why I overspend than worry about counting every last penny. When it gets to the point in the week that I exceed the limit, it's almost like a green light going off telling me I might as well buy something now.

-- List more CDs/books on Amazon
No, but I've sold a few this week. I'll make this my Sunday task.

-- Get started on backlog of freelance work
Actually did this, and managed to fix up some more work further down the line. It's not enough to keep me afloat if/when my full-time job disappears (potentially this week), but it's a start.

So, here's next week's aims. Post below with your own goals for the week.

-- Finally put those CDs and books on Amazon
-- Keep hacking away at freelance work and hopefully fix up some more.
-- Catch up with the people I've been meaning to for ages, and find a cheap way of meeting up with them again.
-- Try to get below that magical £100 limit. Don't feel too bad if it's £110ish.

  • Last weeks goals:
Pay off a debt completely this week and be a good way to paying off another. Done! :T Paid off Rockwell Debt and have the money in the bank ready to pay off Dell tomorrow. :T
Put £44 tax credit and £69 child benefit into the debt savings account. Yep! But instead of £44 tax credits we put in £113! :T
Hopefully hear about our Surestart maternity grant.. Still waiting..
Bank what we saved from our November Challenge this week and start a new week of saving by spending as little as possible! Yep! Banked £9.03 last week from the previous weeks challenge but went out last night for a mates birthday so haven't got any of our november challenge budget left. lol.

    Goals for this week:
    Hopefully hear about Surestart Grant.
    Save £113 tax credit.
    Pay off Dell debt completely.
Have a better week November Challenge wise! lol!
    Total 'Failed Business' Debt £29,043
    Que sera, sera. <3
  • Hi newsmonkey, can I join the challenge? My goals are:

    spend below £20

    Making extra money
list 30 books on green metropolis and all the books suitable for Amazon. sort out boxes to keep them separate
    list 10 items on ebay
    start matched betting

    saving money
shop around for a remortgage. I chickened out of this last week as I took the offer from my current provider, HSBC as I thought other providers would look at my outstanding debt and refuse me. Anyway, I got the paperwork from HSBC and it clearly states that I can decline the offer if I want. :j So I can stop being such a wuss and apply to A&L.

    Fingers crossed

new to all this budgetting stuff, so will start off with some hopefully simple goals and see how i do...

    Food
take lunch to work each day instead of spending 4 quid on subway's/maccy d's etc. have plenty of food i can use in the fridge/cupboards so no need to buy anything.

    Money
spend less than 20 quid all week, this i think should equate to 3 packs of ciggarettes and hopefully nothing else!
will do my expenses for work which i never both to find the effort to do, that should be around £50 or so.

    selling stuff
not bothered selling anything i own before, i just seem to horde it all so will work out a list of things to sell like unused xbox, printers, old pc etc

will empty the car of loose change and the same with my wallet as well, if it aint there, i can't spend it!

if this starts today, then i'm gonna use will power to avoid the pub, and watch the footy at home :D
  • My goals for last week were:

    - Come up with a constructive plan to pay off OD and stick to it!! - Done, this morning!!
    - Join freecycle - done, now just need to offer some stuff and request a tumble dryer!
    - make overpayment on OH loan - car finally sold today for 300 cash YAY!! -done!
    - Finish getting Christmas pressies and write Christmas card list - got most of them done...
    - Not spend more than £20 on petrol - done!! (cant believe that!)
    - Take lunches and drinks from home each day- yep
    - Do food shop at Aldi again - last week managed £25 for 3 of us, including all stuff for packed lunches, was very proud - went to Tescos instead just out of laziness cos its nearer, but did £30 shop and got loads so was very pleased.
    - Attempt to find a bargain dress for OH christmas do. - couldnt find one I liked, but got some lovely shoes for £10 from Asda and am wearing an older dress, but the shoes jazz it up so its great.

    Goals for this week:
    - List loads of CDs on Amazon
    - As above for Petrol and food shopping (hopefully less)
    - Start putting stuff on Freecycle
    - Do well in my exams that I have this week!!

Hi roxorx - I used to roll my own cigs using a box from Rizzla. It's not the little roller thing that always squashes the tobacco, but an auto roller - check it out http://www.roll-ups.co.uk/ishop/879/shopscr3657.html

It is SO much cheaper!! I used to smoke around 15 a day and spent £10 a week. TBH, I preferred rollies as they tasted fresher. Tailor mades used to hurt my chest and they smelled far worse than rollies.

hi, thanks for the advice :) personally i can't stand rollies for some reason, never liked the taste of them. i must be too used to the chemicals in normal ones :D

i really really should give up soon so would rather do that than make it cheaper!
