Abundance of washing up liquid - any ideas?

I got this free Ecover gift pack for signing up with Ecotricity, and it includes a 5 litre tub of washing up liquid.

Trouble is, I have a dishwasher (which I have just discovered, doesn't agree with washing up liquid), so my question is - what else can I use it for?

I mean is there any way of using it as a base for handwash/shampoo etc... Or indeed anything else I may not have thought of.

Thanks in advance everyone!

I usually rub some washing up liquid on stains before i put clothes in the washing machine. Seems to work well for me.

A few drops in a bucket of hot water is good for cleaning the floor. Don't use too much or the floor will be sticky.

Don't use it as shampoo, it strips the hair of the natural oils which are good for it. I seem to remember being told it also removes any shine & leaves hair looking very matt?

  • You can use it to make felt. Use clean, carded sheeps wool (you can get some beautiful colours,) and wind it into balls. Use ecover and hot water, and a gentle rolling rubbing motion, and you get lovely felted balls, good for gifts for children or possibly juggling balls! You can also make felted pictures with a flat layering technique before commencing the rubbibg.

    Hi all,

I brought BOGOF Washing up a while ago and forgot about it. I found them in a box when clearing out the cupboards. Problem is the stuff isn't very good and I wondered if there is any alternative uses of it. I thought about using it to clean the car but not sure whether that would work out well on the paintwork.

    Any ideas?

    Hi racer,

This older thread might help: Abundance of washing up liquid - any ideas?

I'll merge your thread with that one later to keep all the ideas together.

I wouldn't use it on the car if you are in any way concerned about the paintwork, on one of my cars I don't mind as it's got more dings than anything else but on DPs I wouldn't dare he'd kill me. Washing-up liquids are highly alkaline, one effect is that the paintwork tends to oxidise and fade.
