Bought ebay item but remote not as described and range poor...

Hiya Peeps :)

I got a USB Freeview Tuner on ebay for £23.50. I was wondering if you could help me out - this is what the contents of the box are described as on the ebay sales page...

but the remote is actually like this one from a cheaper set:

I know what you're thinking: "Big Deal it's missing a few buttons! So what?!" However the reason I paid extra for the item I did is because it did have the extra remote features as you can see above. In addition, the remote doesn't work very well, especially if I'm over a metre away from my laptop - basically it works when I'm able to reach over to my laptop which defeats the point of the remote if you ask me :doh: :rotfl:

Just one more thing... I couldn't pick up a freeview signal on the piddly little ariel :o but as far as I'm aware we don't get a good freeview signal here yet even through the rooftop ariel. I'm off to a mate's house later who does get freeview and I could try it in their ariel :think: but that isn't going to solve the remote gremlins.

I'm looking for some words of advice as I haven't contacted the seller about the problem yet and I've never had to consider returning something before. :o I'm thinking along the lines of either item is faulty (remote range poor) or not as described (remote differs from illustration). If they can't replace it with a remote as per the pic I'd rather a refund and get one from another buyer... or do without TV... :eek: :rotfl:

    Sorry to hear about that.
    I'm in a similar boat - I want a fully featured remote, so I can get channel listings etc. and was going to pay more for a better one.
    Could you PM me the seller's name / a link to the auction so I know which to avoid?

  • Report this as item not as described if you paid via paypal you can always contact ebay live help on www.ebay.com and ask for there help

    Contact the seller in case it was a genuine mistake - if he 'trades' in these types of item it is possible that there was a labelling error and you got a cheaper on and someone else got a more expensive one. The seller may be mortified and get a new one straight out to you...

    If that yeilds no joy then follow user051105's advice...

    I'm getting a little concerned about this - I'm about to send an email to her now stating that it is different to description and remote range is v.poor.

    At what stage do I launch a dispute with PayPal? From browsing their help files, it appears I should be doing the dispute right now... :think:

    Edit to say there's an example of someone getting an incorrect item but getting no response, and given a neg for their troubles :rolleyes:

    The first stage of a Paypal dispute is now a communication process which allows the seller to respond and offer a resolution/explanation prior to you escalating it to a full claim. I would start that process. It lets them know you are serious, documents the communications and allows for it to be easily progressed to a full dispute. It also wont count as a Paypal dispute either until you choose to escalate it.

    Oh, and save copies of any listing photos in case they are hosted off eBay in which case he could just delete them!

    In that case I'll send the identical message via PayPal's resolution centre. I wasn't sure about it but after reading the help files it looks like that's the thing to do :(

    Do I have to fork out the return postage costs? It was sent 1st class, recorded delivery so I'd like to send it back recorded as that way I can prove to PayPal it's been delivered. Am I thinking along the right lines? :o

    TBH you may be worrying too much - no need to worry this much until you have contcted the seller on a weekday. It may well be a genuine mistake!

    Yeah I am just concerned (too much so) as I've had a free run on ebay till now though it could be an honest mistake :o I guess now I leave the issue till I get a reply on PayPal's dispute centre. :)

    If its progressed as a Paypal dispute the buyer has to pay the return postage. Yes, definately send it recorded delivery. On receipt of the item they should then refund via Paypal. I presume this is because the Paypal process cant refund more than was paid for the item through Paypal.

    Good luck and hope its sorted amicably.
  • Unforunately I've just had this through the PayPal dispute after I said she should pay for the return postage as it is her fault.

    What terms? No such terms on my listing and YOU knew this before purchase (or should have educated your self on them!).

    Is there somewhere on PayPal I can find these terms? I'm looking now, or should I just escalate it right now? :mad:
