urinal or second bog?

we will shortly be moving into our new home and as it only has 1 bathroom (bath/shower,toilet+basin) we have thought of putting in a second loo.
i have thought of having just a urinal and basin, as inevitabley i need a no1 when the wife is using the other loo.
has anyone come across such an instalation in a home and what are the advantages/disadvantages apart form the obvious one of not being able to go potty!

I'd put in a proper second loo - what happens if you both get the trots? The ability of skinny old ladies to carry huge loads is phenomenal. An ant can carry one hundred times its own weight, but there is no known limit to the lifting power of the average tiny eighty-year-old Spanish peasant grandmother.0

Personally I'd never buy a house that just had a urinal for a second loo; I'd consider it a complete waste of space, whereas a real loo would be a big selling point for me. Yeah, it is usually the lady who chooses a home and what is she going to do with a urinal.0

Sorry to say it but I have never seen a home with a urinal in it before and it would put me off buying one if it had. The smell from these if not cleaned/washed on a regular basis is stomach-turning. I used to work in a hotel and had to clean the Gents regularly and could hardly stomach the smell no matter how clean they were."Life may not always be the party you wish for, but whilst here you may aswell dance"!!!

Ebay domestic urinal. Handn't realised how expensive these could be.
If it wasn't so expensive I think it could be a water saving gadet. Really need one that only flushes when you've used it. I think most people would prefer 2 loos than one loo and one urinal so I doubt it would add anything to the value of your property. If space is your reason for considering this idea I think it would be cheaper and better to consider A space saving corner looMy weight loss following Doktor Dahlqvist' Dietary Program

All loos now being sold must have a double flush, so you need only use the half-flush option if it's liquid waste only. Can't see that a urinal would save water - aren't they supposed to flush water on a regular basis anyway even if it hasn't actually been used?
Forget about it, OP - put in a loo. Your wife (and every other woman who lives in that house) will thank you for it! Buy a split seat if you want to save yourself the bother of lifting it.0
