Picture editing software

Hi,

I would like to get started using a picture editing program, but to be honest I have no clue where to start!! some time back I used some programs but for some reason I never fully got them to do what I want!!

I guess I'll explain what I want it to do so if you know of a program that does it you can recomend (if possible free program...)

I want to be able to resize pictures, writte text on them, change tones and colors (like a color picture to black and white, or inverse colors, that sort of thing)

Also, I hate not ever finding nice cards to give on birthdays and stuff and would like to be able to make my own, with my own pictures and text.

As I sais, I am a complete novice to this sort of thing, so any help will be greatly appreciated.

I was recommended . Infarnview . I have used it no problems. Lots I haven't tried yet too.

Whilst Irfanview is very useful and I use it myself, it is not a full photo editor, if you want to add text etc.. The best free photo editor is the GIMP which is more like a free version of PhotoShop, however it will take a bit of getting used to as it is quite complex.

I'd recommend the GIMP too, very similar to Photoshop, though Photoshop has shortcut to preform tasks The GIMP everything is done the hard way. Still a very good software package for free.

But Picasa is not really photo editing software, more like photo cataloguing software.

I use Microsoft Digital Image Suite. i find it powerful and a lot easier to use than photoshop.
