Spotted this on the cableforum, has anyone else seen this, want to add more information??
Sounds like NTL calls are about to get a bit more expensive !
Just got a letter from NTL this morning on phone prices.
They say that they are going to reduce the prices of the phone plans but don't give details. They also say that the calls outside of unlimited tariffs will be 3p per minute across the board (including cable to cable calls). That seems like a steep rise to me as nearly all my calls are either 1p per minute or cable to cable at the moment.
The only bit of good news was that from 2 Oct 150 and 151 will be back in service and free.
the letter more info is at http://www.home.ntl.com/page/phonepricechange
both the letter and the page are not the sort of thing that the campaign for plain english would like they are clasics of obfuscation.

Even more reason for most NTL users to just use NTL for inclusive calls and use a supplier like FIRST TELECOM or THE PHONE CO-OP for their phone calls
Phone Co-Op home user tariff: 4.7p per call off peak upto 1 hour
First Telecom Cable Saver: 1.2p minimum call charge

What a rip-off!
What about the 0845/0870 charges as well (comparisons to BT Together [from 1/10/06] and 18185 [from a BT landline] below):
0845
NTL - 6p connection plus:
5p/minute weekdays
4p/minute evenings
3p/minute weekends
BT - 3p 'set-up fee' plus:
3p/minute weekdays
1p/minute evenings
½p/minute weekends
18185 - 4p connection plus:
3p/minute weekdays
½p/minute evenings
½p/minute weekends
0870
NTL - 6p connection plus:
10p/minute weekdays
8p/minute evenings
6p/minute weekends
BT - 3p 'set-up fee' plus:
7.11p/minute weekdays
3.69p/minute evenings
1½p/minute weekends
18185 - 4p connection plus:
5p/minute weekdays
3p/minute evenings
1p/minute weekendsTime has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
Good grief - I misread the NTL site first time round, I thought it meant 3p per minute after the first 60 minutes on an inclusive call. It doesn't, it means 3p per minute on ALL landline calls if they're not inclusive.
Surely the 3-2-1 tariff must be renamed!!
So, for basic £11/month line rental customers, 3p per minute at all times to all landlines, plus the 6p connection fee.
Am I reading this right??? (Still not 100% sure, slightly overcome by the complete rip-off if this is the case)
First Telecom and the Phone Co-Op are now miles better. Will NTL up the rates they charge other providers too???
Looks like "Free TV" isn't actually going to be that "free".
A ONE MINUTE DAYTIME NATIONAL CALL
Direct on NTL = 9p
Using First Telecom = 1.6p
Using Phone Co-Op (Home User) = 2.94p
A FIVE MINUTE DAYTIME NATIONAL CALL
Direct on NTL = 21p
Using First Telecom = 8p
Using Phone Co-Op (Home User) = 14.7p
A TEN MINUTE EVENING NATIONAL CALL
Direct on NTL = 36p
Using First Telecom = 10p
Using Phone Co-Op (Home User) = 4.7p
A THIRTY MINUTE WEEKEND NATIONAL CALL
Direct on NTL = 96p
Using First Telecom = 24p
Using Phone Co-Op (Home User) = 4.7p0 -

I assume this to pay for the evening & weekend and all-inclusive plans which I assume will now be lowered to match BT's prices. Oh, and the 'free TV' as well.
Telewest will probably do something similar if not exactly the same.
Doing this, they'll either force their customers to move to either one of the above tariff plans or they'll cancel and move to BT.
BT is the cheapest option even without using a CPS provider but of course using a CPS provider will be even cheaper.0 -

I got a letter from Telewest saying exactly the same, tariff changing from 3-2-1 to 3-3-3And yes the lady in the avatar is me

Complete and utter rip off .Some 100% plus increases here:eek:
EG: Existing Evening Call on NTL to 0870 3.85 a min. New Evening rate 8p a min.Plus the 6p connection charge of course.0 -
Disgraceful price increases!!!!
Dont forget 1899 who offer more attractive geographical call rates for cable users
http://www.1899.com/mobilerates.php
Also the better mobile and 0845/0870 rates of 18185
http://www.18185.co.uk/mobilerates.php0 -
Probaly need to increase call charges to make up for lost 0845 revenue they will lose by providing free CS numbers again ,and to pay for FREE ? TV
Nevertheless its a right rip off.0 -
Do like me, ditch the NTL phone line and get VoIP.. You will then be able to get a free incoming local number, and most importantly call out for free to UK landlines, most of Europe and other parts of the world.. And we are not talking to a computer, but to normal landlines (or even mobiles in some countries).
You do need an ATA (adapter) to get the most out of VoIP (make use of your normal phone, without needing a computer switched on), but these can be had from £20..
Save yourself a fortune, I have used it for over 1 year now, and my bills dropped from £20 or so every month to virtually 0. (and that includes 30% of the calls to other counties)0 -
In the small print on the bottom of the ntl letter about 3p at all times and price cuts on call plans, it says
"The saving of £4.00 from the current £14.00 price of talk inlimited 24 which excludes line rental ".0
