Default Lidl Satelite Kit - £59.99

Official insert

What's the deal?

Lidl’s currently selling free to air Digital Satellite Dish & Receiver Sets for £60 which is a very cheap price for a Free Sat. Lidl doesn't sell all its stock across the UK so it won't necessarily be in your local Lidl - but its worth checking. Also do read the discussion below - many top techie tips are contained.

What is free-sat?

A bit like Freeview gives you extra channels through a normal aerial, Free-sat allows you to see all the free channels which are available on Satellite (for a rough guide of what's available see here). There tends to be a wider choice on Free-sat that Freeview, especially of overseas channels.

What will you actually be able to pick up, with this seemingly bargain priced deal?

Does it get terestrial channels (we can't get 5 in Luton, so it'd be handy for this)

& is it REALLY a good buy??

Thanks in advance!

VB

This site is good for finding out what's available for free on the satellites mentioned in the ad.

The only possible issue I can see is that you may struggle for reception the further north you go as the dish isn't that big.

Luton will be OK for the more powerful satellites (like Astra) with that dish, provided you have an unobstructed view to the south.

At 28 degrees East you'll get BBC and ITV programming, but not channels 4 or 5.

Some of the other "free" options in the list above would mean moving the dish to watch them if you want a change from Astra 2A, 2B, 2D, and Eurobird1.
Click on the satellite names on the original link to see where they are located, or select here for a different view.

This could be quite interesting. Does anyone know the make & model of the decoder box?

Thumbs up Brill, last model worth it.

Hi,
I bought this the last time it came out as we were governed by telewest for good reception channels, which you had to subscribe to, set up easy and you get all channels on ASTRA 28, the satellite that serves Europe. The only channels you don't get are Ch4 (scrambled by Sky but this will change) & Ch5 and of course all the Sky channels which you would have to pay for anyway.

So a brief rundown:

Every BBC channel from around the country with all its regional variations
Every ITV channel again with all regional variations.
Film 4 & Film 4 + 1
Sport channels such as Pro Golf
Horror Channel
True Movies
Men & Motors
More shopping channels than you can shake a stick at
& many many more.

There are also 200 odd radio channels.

Good buy, may get another for the bedroom saves messing with running cables or transmitters.

Hope this helped.

What is this life if full of care, we have no time to stand and stare.

This is a good package if you want to receive FTA satellite channels (there are plenty). As rich_jtg pointed out, www.lyngsat.com is the best site to give you an overview of what we can receive here in the UK.
I bought a similar kit from Lidl a year ago and I've been using it ever since. It's easy to install and set up.
The previous versions of the SL65 box set that will come on sale tomorrow at Lidl are software patchable (meaning you can get extra stuff on it - but it's not always legal), this one is a totally new beast.

Is there any problems using this as well as a Sky digital satellite, ie would the dish have to go in the same place causing trouble (i guess the dish would face the same way)

You don't need to put the dish at the same place. As long as it's pointing to the satellite you want without any obstruction between, it can be anywhere.

Cheers, how difficult would be it be to fix one of these up? And is the dish similar sized as the sky digital dish?

Just got back from my local Lidl, they have plenty on display.
Just wanted the SL65 box but ended up buying the entire kit.

Comes with mounting pole, sat finder, digibox, 57cm metallic dish, twin lnb and bits & pieces

these are very easy to set up - they come with a variety of fixing methods/brackets , there is a suction cup type fixing for glass etc, there is a wall bracket with masonry fixings or it can be left assembled in the box- which is handy.
The dish is smaller than a sky digital dish (i think it is around 300mm)

You are talking about the kit that was on sale last year. This one is different. There is no suction and the dish is bigger (57cm).

I have one of these which I bought from lidi last year. Only set it up once and it was ok. If anyone is interested in buying it i live in dewsbury west yorkshire. It would have to be pick up only. Still have reiciept for 59.99, dated 1-09-05. It is just gathering dust and i would accept any decent offer.
