  • Hey there,

You have already agreed to not go crazy, so why dont you give her a little gift or flowers to pretend you are not "going crazy" then, surprise her by making her dinner and have a romantic night in with a slushy film? Girls love guys cooking for them!

If you are not much of a cook then im sure there a loads of folks on here, including me, who could give you some ideas/easy recpies- (Marks and Spencers do some lovely ready made food you could pass off as your own!!!)

    Just a thought?`

Let us know what you decide.

Oh I love this kind of challange.

In the past I have given my Hubby a jar of promises, good for 1 year. Basically an empy jar with 52 slips of folded paper in & he drew out one a week. Half of the slips were blank, the other half had "promises" on which he could cash in, subject to reasonable notice where necessary. This way our anniversary lasted a whole year, plus the cost was virtually non-existant. Things like :
I promise to wash & vacuum your car
I promise to cook the romatic dinner of your choice
I promise to spend an entire Saturday supplying you with pop-corn & watching Lord of the Rings/Star Trek films without complaining
I promise to go out for the day with you bird watching/fishing
I promise to do your share of the house work for 1 week
I promise to .....erm....you know!! (quite a few of these!)

For my birthday last month Hubby had already promised to buy me a very pratical much needed not at all romantic present which I was quite happy with. The day before I made a throw away comment about needing to spend the weekend giving the house a major spring clean. I came home from work on my birthday to find that he had taken a couple of hours off work & had a major clean & tidy session so I walked into a (fairly) sparkling organized house! Doesn't sound romatic but it really was the nicest suprise he could have given me at the time! I am pregnant & was struggling to cope with work, home life & morning sickness at the time so his putting in such an effort really did make my week. He also cooked me dinner (Fried egg & tomato sandwiches but at least I didn't have to cook or wash up!).

For our anniversary next month I am planning an "indoor picnic" with candles, classical music & nice food in front of an open fire. It won't cost much more than our usual evening meal, just a bit of planning & effort, but hopefully it'll give us some quality time together in a relaxed way.

When your busy planning a wedding or buying a house (or in our case being pregnant!) sometimes just being together & not stressing can be diffcuilt to acheive. You don't need to spend moeny to remind someone how special they are!

Aw lillibet... I can't think of anything nicer than coming home to find it all lovely and tidy.... I'll have to suggest this to mine!!!!

I certainly agree that having a meal cooked is very romantic.

Perhaps run a bath for her ready for when she gets in from work, put candles in the bathroom and lay out towels ready for her. Put a glass of champage out ready for her and while she's pampering herself, busy yourself in the kitchen. Prepare her a yummy meal, either like lillibet says, picnic style or a proper meal M&S style ;) .

If someone did this for me (fat chance  ) they would win MANY brownie points.... even more than if there was a fancy restaurant involved.

OR.... book yourselves into a spa for a bit of pampering. Last year for my o/hs birthday I booked us into a local spa where we bubbled in a jaccuzzi then both had back and neck massages. It was a brill couple of hours and NOT the sort of thing that he would EVER have done if I hadn't booked it. Cost £40 for both of us but we 'floated' out when it'd finished.
Just run, run and keep on running!

  • What a fantastic idea Lillibet, hope you don't mind me stealing the Jar of Promises.

However I only got about 20 promises, and am sure 32 blanks is too many. Any other promises I could do?? (Excluding naughty things!! lol)

    Thanks

    Erm........other promises.....

Scrub his back in the bath
Clean & polish all his shoes
Read a chapter/couple of pages of his book to him (I do this with silly character voices, it has him in stiches!)
Give him a "mans" manicure (surely my husband can't be the only man who likes manicures?)
    A shower for 2 (!)
Bath the dog instead of making him do it
Give him a massage (can be broken down into back/shoulders/foot etc for several promises)
Go to see a film of his choice/rent a video of his choice
Bring him breakfast in bed (Might want to restrict it to weekends only)
Let him watch the football/cricket/rugby even though there's something on the other side you really want to watch.

If you can't think of enough just do one a month maybe? I repeated some promises as I couldn't think of 26 either!
I put them in a old coffee jar with a pretty handwritten label on the front & a fabric cover over the top intead of a lid, you could put them in a gift bag or box instead.

I once made up a tape/ cd of all of 'our' songs. They don't all have to be mushy. Mine had 2 sides one of romantic stuff and one of more upbeat stuff.

I filled it with songs that would bring back a memory of something we did together so maybe the theme song to the first film you went to see together (unless it was an Arnie film or something, LOL). The song you are going to have your first dance to at the wedding, something which reminds you of a favorite holiday etc.. or just something that you like the words of, that mean something just to you two, I included a song as I loved the tune and didn't listen to the words properly, found out after I'd given it to him and listened to it properly it was about a couple breaking up.. whoops :D

Since most women love jewellery, why not design something yourself then have it made for her. It will then be the only item in the world like it. A truly unique gift.
I did this for my girlfriend and the diamond ring has become her most treasured possession and I was awarded abundant Brownie points.

A cost free idea is to write 100 small messages on blank cards then hide them throughout the house. The messages can be 100 reasons you're lucky to have her.
Number each card so she knows if she has more to find and hide them thoughtfully where she will discover them eventually but not so easy she'll find them all immediately. In pockets of clothes, shoes, a diary page, a book she's planning to read, in a CD she plays. I've also done this and it was appreciated and she kept finding cards for weeks later so the soppy stuff was ongoing.

Good luck, hope you find the perfect idea for her and I'm sure since you're putting thought and effort into this, that she will love whatever you settle upon. Live with passion, Wilf.
    Keep smiling!
  • Hi there. I'd like to get one of these Jars for my wife for Valentine's Day - I think she'd really love it. Where do you get them from??
