Hello everyone
. Welcome to the weekly spend challenge. This challenge is open to anybody, no matter what financial place they are in.
On this thread please post an amount of money you wish to stay below within the week (Sunday to end of working day on Friday). This can be pennies or thousands it depends on the individual. Then next Saturday report back and pledge for the following week. Feel free to update this thread with daily spends if that keeps you on track.
This is a little bit of fun but for many it highlights the fact that maybe that magazine/chocolate bar isn't needed. Hopefully your spending habits can be changed forever.

Morning budgeteers,
Another Sunday and another red for me
So I have decide to try a new tack. I am setting my budget at £60 for this week and I am going to cut it down week by week as being red everyweek is not giving me any motivation, I am just getting used to failing.
First post updated, shout if there are any errors.Weekly Spend Challenge: £0/£30

I kept to my budget £10 dead on!! two NSDs did the job, think I'll aim for another £10 this week please PointyDebt free 11/05/11!

Hi Pointy Penguin and everyone else!
Thanks so much for this thread - I can't believe the difference it's started making to my spending habits just in the few weeks I've started posting on here.:T
I think my main problem is that paying by Switch/Visa Debit by using chip and pin 'desensitises' me to the spending process - I just forget what I've bought/spent until I get to the end of the month and I'm overdrawn! Taking out a sum of money to last me the week is proving really good at helping me keep track of what I've spent, and if I'm struggling, looking for cheaper options/just doing without to try to remain green.
I went to the cashline last night to get this week's budget = £70! And I have a good feeling about this week, so really hoping for green this week! I know today will be a NSD so that will help!
Best of luck to everyone x:A2014 = my year for change!:mad:Credit Cards are NOT my friends and I'm NOT playing with them anymore0 -
Hi Everyone
Ive not been doing this properly last week so will rejoin this week and be more enthusiastic!
I will stick to a budget of £30 as got the food shopping in.Ineed to post a few ebay items and need a couple of food bits but should be fine with that
Heatherykins - Im the same as I tend to do internet shopping and it never seems 'real' until I realised how much I was spending.Although sometimes Ive no alternative to buy over the internet but I go from my internet banking balance now so check that daily and tally it up to my figures so I cant 'forget' any purchases .
Hope everyone has a good weekWeekly Spend Challenge £200 -
hi all,
thanks PP - £50 to keep me motivated.loves how my "I've been censored" signature has been censored. LOL. Happy Christmas. :xmastree:0 -
Right I'm going to say £20 again this week. BUT I go on holiday on Wednesday so I want to only spend £10 this week... although this has to include going to see Alice in Wonderland as I've been waiting for months to see it
. Luckily I don't think I really need anything for the holiday now so I should be ok.:)
Well done to everyone who was green or purple or even jsut a teeny bit red this week!! :T:T
Thanks to Pointy as ever for continuing this thread!
Edit - just realised I have already spent 97p on a white paint tester to cover some holes in my bedroom wall for when I move, and have to send 2 books for readitswapit. Hopefully not much more than £10!!Became Mrs Scotland 16.01.16Became homeowners 26.02.16

Hi chuggingtongirl,
Yes, internet shopping was also one of my many guilty pleasures, which have gone unpunished. I just got online banking sorted out a few weeks ago and don't know how I ever managed without it! I had loads of bank statements still in the envelopes because I didn't want to open them up and face what was in them - with the online thing, I'm looking at the balance every day and it's motivating me because the balance isn't reducing so quick because I'm cutting right back! There's no better feeling than facing it and realising you are getting somewhere!:A:A2014 = my year for change!:mad:Credit Cards are NOT my friends and I'm NOT playing with them anymore0 -
I agree Heatherykins.... and Chuggingtongirl. I used to always use my debit card but now try to carry cash. Although it doesn't stop me from spending too much altogether, it has helped me cut down a bit. Now I just need to tackle the unnecessary temptations such as eating out with friends, buying bits I could do without etc etc. Ive cut down a lot, just not as much as I need to.
I noticed I've paid off £900 this month from my debt, if I could do that every month then I'd be debt free in about 18 months! I really need to focus on that!Became Mrs Scotland 16.01.16Became homeowners 26.02.16

I suppose that's the thing though PPB - It's not just about getting Debt-Free - we still need to have some sort of life and some things to look forward to along the way - so all we need to do is find cheaper ways to do it!!! Well done you for your progress! :T This is really just week 4 for me, so it's early doors, but I'm really excited to see how much money I have left on my next payday (23rd) as I've cut back everywhere!:A2014 = my year for change!:mad:Credit Cards are NOT my friends and I'm NOT playing with them anymore0
