Experian Credit File

Options
I received my experian credit report this morning and I don't really understand it so would really like some advice.

Under the credit agreements section, it has each of my defaults listed twice. Is this normal? I've never had one from experian before and equifax only list these things once so could anyone advise?

Thanks

    Hi Gaz,
Ring experian, it's a 0800 freephone number and they will go through everything, have all details to hand, write questions beforehand so you don't forget.
    Best Wishes with it all

Thank you. I hadn't thought of that.
  • The reason for this is the first default will be by the lender (should be settled) then the new default will be the DCA that added it when they took over the debt. So for instance, say HSBC added one and so did 1st Credit, the HSBC one should show settled the same day as 1st Credit registered it...

If this is not how it reads then fill in the e-form to get the duplicates removed.

Thanks for your reply, even if it was so long ago.

My Experian credit report actually has 6 defaults duplicated so my report has 2 entries for each one, one default still showing as active even though it was settled in 2007 and a ccj that was set aside by the county court.

Is there a formal way in which I can complain about this as it's really shocking how bad it is.
  • You have to write/email the companies that have put the instruction on, they are obligated to correct this within so many days if the entry is wrong. Once this has been done they will then notify Equifax and they will take it off your record or amend it accordingly. Equifax cannot change much on your credit report unless it has been entered incorrectly when transcribed as it would be open to fraudulent behaviour, where records could be changed willy nilly.

I had a CCJ set aside this was not corrected by Equifax, I contacted "Trust Online" there is a number on their website and it tells you all about it they were really helpful on the phone. They faxed the set aside judgement details to Equifax and it was removed the next day.

My advice would be to get everything corrected by email email the details through to whoever you want to correct it, it is usually customer resolution or customer relations teams that receive the emails.

    Hope that helps.

    Regards

    J

Thanks - do you need to have searched yourself on the Trust Online website before they'll help you?

I just find it odd that my other 2 credit reports are fine but experian have entered everything twice.
  • Just call Experian, sorry I thought you said Equifax. They will correct it for you.

Does anyone have a phone number where I can get through to a human being at experian rather than a robot?

    Thanks :)
