Daughter just had £570 taken from her bank account by scammers
She checked her account via cash machine on Sunday and this morning we got a automated call from Abbey to ask us to confirm who we are, apparently we had two lots of transactions taken £280, and £290 and £300 which then was automatically got refunded back must have been when anti fraud measures kicked in
The money was taken out of a cash machine in Asda in Edinburgh/ Sainsburys Ediburgh and Ediburgh uni around 210 miles away from her.
She was told she will get money back.Still a nuisance though and ultimately its customers who pay
I know the scams myself although I dont use machines where there is a camera above place hand over key pad or they put something in card slot

I hope people are careful, these scams are very clever
We were warned by fraud by automated message. Yet when my OH went into bank same day they wasnt even aware of the cloning a few days back. They are aware it goes on, the lady in the bank said to my OH they watch customers in nearby pub
Not sure if it was a false plate when you enter card or something in where you insert the card, I dont think it was a camera0 -
I always thought they needed both the card skimming part as well as the pin number, which is why you are advised to cover your hand when entering the pin. I could be totally wrong. My knowledge of this is pretty poor.0

Petrol stations are the most common place to get your card cloned, due to their high turn over of staff, and they use the cctv to get the pin code. NEVER let them handle your card if they tell you it's not working!!!!
My ex had £7000 taken from his account recently thanks to a local petrol station, and Natwest took weeks to reimburse him, even though it was obviously fraudulent!!Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
The machine she used was in the bank on outside wall.0

When I visit a hole in the wall I physically try and rip the face plate off.The man without a signature.0

This is why I always try and take cash out of a machine that's located inside a bank branch, less chance of being scammed that wayThey have the internet on computers now?! - Homer Simpson

If you can't stand behind our troops, please feel free to stand in front of them.
I will respect your opinions, even if I don't agree with them0 -
I always get cash out as cashback at a supermarket. Checking a balance is a difficult thing though. Online is ok provided you have adequate virus protection etc. We had an email showing photographs of what to look for as scammers were working in our area and had used a false plate and camera on local Cashpoint machines.0

If you use a cashcard account to withdraw money - never leave large amounts in that account. In fact leave zero in there.
Keep the money in a current account or a savings account that does not have a hole in the wall card - then transfer over to the cashcard account via telephone/internet banking - just before you withdraw any money from the ATM.
The cashcards are the only ones they can clone and use in UK almost immediately - to withdraw cash from an ATM0 -
It was her only account she had when she was little baby. She is only a student and they have taken a large chunk of her money
They only started using it 4th she used machine on 28th only to check her balance
She should get it back as she didnt give her card details out other than using the machine but I am mad ate the thieves who do this because we all pay in end
Apparently its very difficult sometime to tell on the machines they can even make a false front to the machine0
