O2 Home Phone will be launched in March, 2010.

Their will be two home phone packages. ‘Evening & Weekend’ £9.50 per month includes line rental and unlimited calls to UK homes on evenings and weekends.
and ‘Anytime’ £12.50 per month and offers any time, unlimited calls to UK homes. It also offers unlimited calls to 0845/0870 numbers and landlines in over 20 international countries, although these are subject to a fair use policy.

This means that if you’re an O2 mobile customer you’ll be able to get the standard broadband package and Evening & Weekend calls for just £17 per month.

Its a 12 month contract, you have to pay by dd,and you have to be a o2 mobile & broadband customer to get the phone service.

  • If their home phone is half as good as their broadband this is a winner. Can't wait for a real alternative to BT.

    Hurray!

Plusnet charge for Caller display @ 99p/month, or add it to a bundle of 2 or more features (call divert/waiting etc) and the bundle goes up by £1.50/month - wonder if anyone actually does that?

This means that if you’re an O2 mobile customer you’ll be able to get the standard broadband package and Evening & Weekend calls for just £17 per month.

You need to decide on your usage to see if this will work for you.

For £11.54pm BT (if on a rolling contract) will give you evening & weekend calls, 0845/0870 numbers inclusive, Caller Display and 1571 service. Add O2 BB at £7.50 (assuming you are a mobile customer) then it's £19.04.

If you want the same service from O2 you have to add £1 for 1571 and £1.75 for Caller Display so total is now £19.25. 0845/0870 numbers are chargeable at 1p per minute with possibly a connection charge too.

I'm not bothered about 1571 but I wouldn't want to be without Caller Display.

You will need a BT line if your TT line is already LLU'd.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • I got quite excited about this offer until I saw the charges for caller display, not sure I would want to be without it.

    ;)

It possibly does, its just I've never thought of leaving BT until I read about this and both my o2 and BT contracts come up for "renewal" in the next couple of months.

I've asked the MSE team to do the research for me :D
