moving boxes

Options
Hi,
Sorry if this is in the wrong place, as its not really to do with mortgages but is about moving.

Im moving at end of next week (just from rented prop to another rented prop), but Im struggling to get hold of any decent size cardboard boxes to pack my stuff up. Ive rang Tescos but they say they dont really get many large boxes as most stuff comes on pallets now. Ive been searching on internet (even EBay) but they are quite expensive (looking at about £30 for the size/quantity I need) and what with all the other costs (van hire, admin fees, deposit etc), I'd rather try and save some money. Plus it annoys me having to pay so much for boxes which used to be given away free by supermarkets next to the checkouts!
Anyone got any ideas where is best to get some good size boxes from either cheaply or even better free?

Thanks in advance

I managed to go into tescos and ask someone and their flowers come in boxes,so if you ask one day they will save them for you for the next(as out store normally crushes them) and I did that 2 days running and got 30 boxes!!!

your local newsagent/ spar/ market might not be a bad bet, small traders have to pay to have thier recyling taken round some areas,
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.

I got a load from my workplace - they'd just taken delivery of a load of new computers, so had plenty of strong boxes they gave me.

I managed to get some banana boxes from Morrisons. If you ask they should put some aside for you. Not enormous, but quite strong.

When I last moved I asked at Iceland. A member of staff would either go out back & sort me out some of the collapsed down large boxes that they had or if there were none out there, direct me to the car park where the boxes were in a caged trolley affair waiting to be collected by the waste services, so I could help myself to suitable ones.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

You could always go to your local recycling site and ask the staff to put by any big ones that would otherwise go into the cardboard skip?

If you have a local Wooden Toy shop such as Hawkins Bazaar or similar ask in there.

They are owned by a firm called TOBAR who use large heavy duty cardboard boxes about the same size and shape as the ones from most removal firms.

Designed to ship wooden toys the boxes are strong and durable, as these things are quite heavy (my other half owns a wooden toy company you see, so we get a lot of these boxes).

    Hope this helps

Mcdonalds have some really good boxes that they throw away.... I've always just taken them from their rubbish store but I'm sure they will let you have some if you ask.
