It's a joke.
Whilst water companies have effectively been told to cap prices at inflation for the next 5 years, it does nothing about the recent huge prices the water companies have imposed.
e.g. I've just had my (metered) water bill for the next 6 months from Severn Trent. Whilst my consumption was exactly the same as the previous 6 months, the bill has increased by over 30%
I wonder how my employer would react if I were to suggest a 5.5 year pay deal of 30% plus inflation?
The rise in share prices of water companies, Severn Trent in particular, on the news says it all.
Edit: Btw, I believe it is an average if £3 off before inflation spread over the next 5 years, so don't hold your breath
Yep...Households will see a £3 fall in average water bills to £340 before inflation over the next five years, industry regulator Ofwat has said...."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -
Water bill charges really get my goat, apologies as a newbie and I see it has been covered elsewhere regards South West water but have not seen those threads
We are under South West Water on a non metered 3 bedroom house with me the wife and two kids, which we hope to change to a meter and see how things work out this year.
We do not use a lot of water (smelly lot us-not having 2 showers a day etc) but we pay £65 a month currently every month for 12 months and I am intrigued as to what others pay around the country.
I know it is different down here with the coastline etc and before todays news I was quite expecting a new payment book to drop on our mat for the next year at around the £70 a month mark.
Combined with council tax of £111 a month for ten months we are paying almost £200 a month for both combined for the majority of the year and I would be interested to read what others pay.
Apologies if this in the wrong thread and please feel free to move it as I find my way around here.0 -
Hi Nevsy
We're on a meter, 2 adults, 3 kids, garden with waterbutts but do use hose occasionally (we're allowed ! lol) and our water bill is approx £400 per year (give or take a few quid) so about £35 per month.
We do use quite a bit of water and could probably cut down a bit (more showers than baths etc etc) so I personally think you would be better off on a meter. The only thing I will say is make sure it's what you want to do because once a meter is installed, it can't be taken out (unless I'm mistaken?)
Bill frequency for me is every 6 months, not sure if it could be changed to monthly? Still nice for me as I get 6 months worth of interest on my money before I have to pay my bill (not a lot but it all helps !)
