This can't be a permanent offer because I couldn't see how they could survive on only charging 2p/min to mobiles so this may go up so it may be prudent to check their website every now and then, or alternatively, this forum.

    Update:

I thought I'd make it clear that this is for calls from BT landlines. Calls from other landline providers, payphones and mobiles, will in most cases, cost more (especially from mobiles where it can cost upto 40p/min)!

What about if you have a different CPS (i.e. Primus)?

Primus were (I don't know whether they still are because I play safe and use the 1280 prefix rather than take the chance) in a real muddle with their charges for calls to 084 and 087 numbers (see HERE).
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

I echo Heinz' post above. Use BT by dialling the override code of 1280 first before dialling the 0844 number.

It's highly unlikely that the call will be cheaper than BT unless it's a mistake/special offer. Primus may charge the same as BT for their calls to 0844 but it would be difficult to know because calls to 0844 can cost anywhere between 1p/min to 5p/min (from a BT landline).

I know OneTel (now owned by the expensive TT), would charge around 2.5p/min for this call. I'm not sure what TT charge.

Teleco's like Primus, etc have until 19th August to become more clear/up front with the cost of calls to these types of numbers. After this date, they have to be more upfront and prominently display the cost of these calls alongside those of their geographicals instead of hiding them in hard-to-find places on their websites, etc, or in some cases, not displaying the cost of these type of calls at all.
  • Thanks Pricefighter, used this ok today and got the 2p per minute message.
  • This service has now been added to the CallCheckers.

    Oops, so it does.

As fbrj said, it didn't last long, did it?
