1 mortgage, 2 babies, 3 years to be MF, 4 goodness sake!- weezl's diary

Hi MFWs. :hello:

Having recently joined Financial Bliss and Maz on the MFI3 take 2 challenge, I realised I’d like to have a space to talk in more detail about my MFI3 journey, so thought I’d start a diary, rather than clutter up the challenge thread. I have spectacularly failed in my original MFI3 challenge (sorry to DD5 and tallgirl, cos I aimed to be at £20k by the end of that! :rotfl:I know there are quite a few on this forum already, so I hope this doesn’t tread on any toes :)

My situation:

October 2007, Joined MSE. Owed £143600 on mortgage

Now reduced to £79,424.76 :D

How I’ve done this so far:

  • My mad live off 50p a day challenge (food, cleaning and health things) Did this for a year and now it is slightly less strict as we have a baby and I’m pregnant again, but we still afford those things for £1 a day.
  • Reduction of household costs- stopped using dishwasher
  • Reduction of life/critical illness and IP in line with mortgage reduction and pension provision.
  • No more foreign holidays.
  • Me saying yes to additional work purely to make overpayments. Usually web design stuff. I am much more limited now in how much of this I can take on as I am on maternity leave. My main focus is on keeping our costs as low as possible.

The Weezl household consists of:

Mr Weezl (also an MSE user called acetatemonkey)
Me, Weezl74
Fergus, our 8 month old son
Bump, also Male, and due when Fergus is 1

Thank you to anyone who reads this, and I look forward to any tips you might give me along the way!

Weezl x

    Yeah that would be great!

Forgot to ask, how do you get your work for web design, only asking as i used to do a lot of web design, but now i am graphic based, i used to do hobbles out side of work, but found the money was terrible as people wanted things for almost nothing, so i give up

    Cheers

Welcome. I am impressed with the 50p a day, does that include everything that is not bills? Spread out over the course of the month I probably spend that on myself but the food bills are nowhere near that.
I am looking forward to watching your progress.

Hi AJ, the 50p a day was food cleaning and toiletries, fun was seperate. Did you mean you live off less than 50p a day for food? I am so impressed, it was a part-time job for me getting it down that low:rotfl:

Deefa, the chilli worked out at 43p for a generous helping :)

    It's an enormous batch!:

2 cans asda SP kidney beans
    4 packs SP mince
I large can costco tomatoes (equivalent of 5 asda ones)
    3 packs dried onions
    herbs, chilli, cumin to taste.

Lob all in Slo cooker, eat with jacket potato.

Shortbread for afters, whole dinner for 50p :money:

:confused: I mean I was far too far over nowhere near. We spend around £200 a month on food, so £6 a day. I have recently joined the grocery challenge on OS though so I am hoping to cut it down. There are only 2 of us and some on there are putting me to shame with bigger families.
Right challenge on...I want to get near your totals Weezl74
