Hi
After watching Martin on GMTV this morning I was curious as to whether Thames Water offer a single parent/person discount on their water bills? I can't seem to find any information on their website.
Also, if you are a single parent have you found having a water meter cheaper?
Thank you

Unless I am mistaken, the only discount Thames give is a single person(not parent) discount on an assessed tariff*.
* If you apply for a meter and one cannot be fitted(often this happens in older flats) you get an assessed bill.
Nobody can answer your question about a meter being cheaper as it depends on two factors:
1. How much water you would use if metered.
2. The Rateable Value(RV) of your present property(it is on your bill)
The advantage of applying for a meter is that if the meter does turn out to be more expensive, you can change back to your old tariff.(within 12 months)0 -
There is no such thing as a single parents discount as lets face it, you might be single but you could have 10 plus kids all using more water then most other people.
To be considered for the single persons tariff you have to have applied for a meter and been refused as then assessed charges apply and that is based on the normal use for your property type rather then the amount of people in the property. Thus meaning you would spend more on assessed then you would if you were single and on a meter.
For the tariff you have to apply and supply a copy of your council tax bill to show you get the discount on that.
So far that is the only way to get the tariff but that might of course change in the review
As for if a meter is cheaper, as has been said..Depends on your usage. Try the calculator on Thames water's site and see.There is a race of men that don't fit in; A race that can't stand still;
So they break the hearts of kith and kin, and roam the world at will.
