in my opinion I think you should be given the one that works best for you and your body. put it this way it would be more expensive for them (nhs) if you had a baby rather than trying to prevent it0

I think the doctor you originally seen is thinking about money not about his patients.
I would see the another doctor at the surgery, even better if you can maybe find out which doctor signed for it last time and see them.
If theres no real side effects of that pill for you personally, and theres no medical reason you shouldn't stay on it then you should be entitled to continue using it.
I used to be on Microgynon ( cheapest one) now on Dianette and would not want to come off it. I've never had any problems with the 'cost' of it at my doctors.New York ♥..........These street will make you feel brand new, Big lights will inspire you.

Thanks both of you. Will let you know how I get on when I have my appointment - if they try to tell me I can't have it I will kick up a right fuss!£2 Savers Club 2011 (putting towards a deposit

I agree with the last two posts and would kick up a hell of a fuss in your position, if the medication is the best for you then that should be the main priority.
(And boy am I jealous you even got Yasmin, apparently our PCT hasn't agreed to give that yet...now I suppose the reason is the price)The "Bloodlust" Clique - Morally equal to all. i had a complete different experience... the best pill for me is Yasminelle, the newest version of Yasmin... i was on that one till i run out and couldnt find it here. Went to Spain, paid for a 6 months supply and when i came back i had the same problem, i talk to my doctor about it and he recommended Yasmin and gave me 6 months supply !!! sad to say my body did not agree with this pill and i end up puttting them in the bin. I think you should talk to the clinic i bet they have got that one too. I think the chemist charges for yasmin around £20 ?Mejor morir de pie que vivir toda una vida de rodillas.0

Well when I first went onto Yasmin I did a lot of reading online... I think the reason many doctor's wont put people on it is that it's still fairly new and so they don't actually know much about long term side effects. It was a risk I was willing to take at the time to avoid extra weight gain, but it is something that I worry about.£2 Savers Club 2011 (putting towards a deposit

Don't know if double posting is allowed but I don't know how to multi-quote! I've never had to pay for my Yasmin just always ticked the 'has been prescribed free contraception' box on the back.£2 Savers Club 2011 (putting towards a deposit

I was prescribed Yasmine because its a pill suitable/helpful for peole with PCOS usually...didn't suit me though.0

I wonder how much they all cost? I know the Mirena coil costs £85 and I had to have 2 (one bent as they tried to get it in) :-S so I can't imagine you are more expensive than me!!0

Just had a look at the BNF online to see what the prices actually were - and there's quite a difference!
Microgynon: levonorgestrel 150 micrograms, ethinylestradiol 30 micrograms. Net price 3 × 21-tab pack = £2.87
Yasmin: drospirenone 3 mg, ethinylestradiol 30 micrograms. Net price 3 × 21-tab pack = £14.70
Not to say that your doctor shouldn't be prescribing Yasmin, especially if that's the one that suits you best, just that I can see where they're coming from!0
