Earning £50K+ a year, owning my own house, having a vodafone contract or 4 years +, having credit cards, never missing a payment in my life... It all doesn't count when applying for a bloody O2 phone! I just got declined when applying for a phone online! How stupid is the credit checking facilities in this country????
I even applied for an equifax credit report and its all GREEN! No CCJ's, bad history, etc. I've been declined for credit cards (amex) before. I just DON'T KNOW the reasons!!!!!! It would make more sense if there is a VALID reason. How bloody likely is it that i miss a payment of £19 a month??????
I think we should all have identity cards and that should make life simpler. Stupid credit checks!

I don't think there's anything wrong with it. The credit referencing agencies are all a waste of time and money. They can't do their jobs right.
It took equifax more than a month to sort out the wrong address they had on their system for me. And even then, I've officially been at my address (according to equifax) for only 2.5 months even though I've been here for 18+ months. Guess what, it'll take them another 2 months to sort of this error. Useless!0 -
Have they never been able to tell you why you have been declined - sounds like your credit history is fine so they must have some reason for declining you.Weight Loss - 102lb0

you may find you have been turned simply as you have got to the point of having to much credit when you get to that you start to become a risk0

Or it can be from the scoring system rather than the history - if you move address a lot, switch jobs a lot, switch bank accounts a lot, dont have a landline (one company I worked for heavily penalised you for this but gave you massive plus points for having an ex-directory number), being single and all the other questions they ask.
The other problem can be to do with exactly how you write your address, My previous address I would write Arden Croft, Nash Close but some who use auto complete had it as Arden Croft, 1 Nash Close but others simply 1 Nash Close. These different itterations caused all sorts of problems as they ment my different credit histories didnt tie up properly. All posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers

is it your address that's blacklisted. We had a similar problem in getting interest free credit (the only sort to have!). The people who used to live next door to us were up to their eyes in debt and cos their postcode was the same as ours, our house kept coming up as being blacklisted, even though our finances are completely sound. Check that its not your address (i.e. the people who occupied the house before you) thats blacklisted and if thats what it is you should be able to sort it out.0

It is things like this that make the whole system tedious and a huge waste of time. These companies try to automate the system to such an extent that a slight error or wrong way an address is written means: 1. You can't get credit or a new mobile and 2. You have a credit search recorded under your name for no useful reason.
No one has ever been able to explain why I have been declined stating data protection act, etc. A credit card company did mention that they could not see any negative reasons on my credit file. i.e. No CCJ's, missed payments. The only thing I can see that could be to blame is the timing of the length of residence at my address that equifax screwed up.
The other thing could be that equifax doesn't seem to have my previous address down in the electoral roll. Its correct under "previous address" in "Personal Information" but under electoral roll, it has "No data recorded" under previous address. Strange.
I did have a lot of credit cards I didn't use in the past but made a point of cancelling most of them except 2 that I use. This was cancelled over 6 months ago.
I do have a landline with ex-directory, am married, have the same bank account for almost 10 years. My flat is brand new and I'm the first owner/resident here. I'm not sure about all the other residents here though.
This sucks!
So O2 has declined me. Now to try t-mobile...
Thanks for all your advice.0 -

sounds like a complete c-ck up - I hope you get it sorted out - sorry could not be of more help.0 -
When I worked in credit - it would be similiar to O2 as it wasnt for a financial institution - we only had the ability to hot key people - put in the details as given by the customer and it then came back yay or nay, we never got any details of the reason why. In a national company with 6 call centres we had 2 people in the whole company who could "white key" which was to pull up the actual credit files and see the scoring and even they required an MDs authorisation to do it.
We used to say that we simply got the answer form the credit reference agency and if they want more info to write to the credit reference agency for a copy of their file simply because we could do nothing elseAll posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers

This happened to me years ago and I learned one very important lesson in life .. credit is a privilege, not a right.
The reason I got turned down for credit, despite having a 100% perfect credit record, was that the records at the credit check agency were 3 years out of date. We had moved house 3 years previously, had even voted from our new address, but the credit company used still had us at the old address. You say your flat is brand new .. is this a possibility?
We survive on credit but you must always remember that you nobody HAS to give you credit.
IvanI don't care about your first world problems; I have enough of my own!0
