Confessions of a (reformed??!) Shopaholic

Welcome all to the fabulous world of a broke shopaholic, who spends her nights surrounded by her beautiful shoes (Wittner, Zu, and Aldo's in particular..), perfumes and jewellery, and the occasional designer purchase.

And now credit card statements... Many many credit card statements!

I decided to start this diary in the hope of it putting me on the straight and narrow. I am editing this post, now writing from the 16th of January, and I can say that some of my expenses have come down, but I'm still struggling, because I simply spend more than I earn... All the time. This has caused me to get dangerously close to a credit limit of $9,000, which I never dared dream I'd get anywhere near to.

So (from page 5) http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=2061701&page=5 is my last extravagance for the year, and my attempts to live as frugally as is physically possible, pay off my debts, finish my university degree, try and keep away from the madness that is my quasi-relationship, and finish as much of my 101 in 1001 list as is possible!!!

Hope to hear from you all,

misslauren xoxo

I'm also going to be spending around $150 on dinner tonight... but I have saved every cent for it, as it is me and boys second anniversary :p

But seriously, need to start cutting out this spending and getting rid of debt from here on out. Have another laser treatment on weds @ $90 and was going to have to buy a cream @ $80 for it...

    I think I might reschedule ;)

  • So, current plan of attack:

    * Pay at least $750 off debt by 31/12/2009.

    * Save at least $400 for trip to Fiji at the end of the month for food and expenses, and not go over this amount.

Stick to 5 NSD's this month, and increase by one day a month :A

Really need credit card debt to be paid as need to buy a car... and will not take a loan while I have credit card debt. Also want to have $2,000 in an emergency fund, and to concentrate on topping up my homesaver account :j

    Hi MissLauren,

Seeing your diary reminds me of mines, very similar title! Wow your spending bill looks like mines used to a few years back. Why don't you list everything you have i.e. perfume and you will see how much you have? I did this with all my perfume and toiletries and discovered I have about 40 bottles of perfume which is excessive. It didn't stop me buying some on holiday this year though, ha!

Good luck, sounds like you have a plan. Will subscribe and see how you are doing!
  • Thanks Swinstie, hopefully I make some progress :D

Ok, so went out with my wonderful boy for our special dinner last night, and i think I've decided to stop drinking. We got charged near $80 for one glass of house champagne and one (1/3 small glass full) rose, one lemonade and a sparkling water.

    :mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

Poor boy ended up forking out for that as I had brought cash, so I'm feeling super guilty about it. Anyway, i think I'll have a NSD to compensate today... and think of something sweet for the boy to say thankyou. Ok... looking for MSE non-alcohol challenges now...

    Hi and welcome :D

Your spending looks like mine (used to) :o Have been on this site for a year now and the debt is slowly going down :D

But I always insist on having a life too :j
Sometimes it's hard to walk in a single woman's shoes - that's why we need really special ones!

  • Thanks for the reply Shoe Gal,

Yes, i think that's going to be the problem, managing to find the balance between paying off the debts and having a life too

That, and the fact that this guy :santa2: is just around the corner and I'm notoriously bad with spending too much at christmas. But I do have a shopping list and plan to stick to it.

Ok... Today = Study day. Need to start my 3000 word assignment... due in 1 week. Eeep!

  • Hmmmm.

So boyfriend broke up with me yesterday
After I bought him coffee  And spent $170 on our 2 year anniversary dinner the night before :mad::mad:

... and he couldn't give me a decent reason, other than the fact he doesn't want to be in a relationship at the moment

Ok... very confused. Must. Not. Shop.

But he insists we need to remain friends... because he still 'needs' me. And apparently would still love to go to Tetsuya's, the restaurant I had booked for his birthday in January, at a cost of $450. Jerk.

Sorry to hear about the break-up MissLauren, but you know what, reading back on your posts it sounded like you paid for everything whilst 'the boy' sat back and let you! Mmmm, maybe he has done you a favour and you can now spend any spare money on YOU! OH used to pay for me when we first started dating, for the first few dates (cos he was wooing me), but now we split everything. We still treat each other, but are essentially equal in our relationship.

    DO NOT SHOP...unless it's a treat for yourself x

Sounds like you're trying to hard to be posh to me. $450 restaurants and rip off "designer" clothes and the like.

What's the point? Who are you trying to impress?

If anything, "designer" clothes make the wearer look gullible and pretentious IMHO.

*hugs* so sorry to hear that :( But... make it positive. You can now concentrate on yourself! I always found I spent money on the other half, and now neither of us have that problem. :p
