Replacement Boiler Quote

Just got a quote from British Gas and am wondering peoples opinions. I know it will be a bit more than non-British Gas, but dont mind spending a couple of hundred quid more for a good job.
Its for a Worcester-Bosch 28i Junior Combi. Moving it from in the kitchen to under the stairs. This includes bricking up a small window and rendering in and out and filling in the hole from the old boiler.
Also includes flushing the system, a filter and one of the remote clock thermostat things.
Is this bad or not?
Quote all in is £2949

Good evening: for any job in your home... 3 quotes, compare like for like. Avoid the WB Junior (the company's 'bargain basement boiler'..plump for the CDi if you must have a WB). BG is seldom competitive and they often subcontract their installations.
Price will be affected by your location in the UK and the standard of the specification....is this a combi swap or a conversion from an open vented to sealed system?

Thanks for your help, we are getting more quotes, always get at least 3.
On the WB site, on their Find A Boiler bit, thats the one it recommened me (in fact it recommended the 24i, but I though the 28i would be a bit better). I only have 3 bedrooms and 1 bathroom, is anything bigger overkill?
Its a combi swap, but a change of location. Some of the things I lked about BG were that the bricking up of windows etc is done by an acutal builder/joiner rather than the boiler installer. Thought that would likely be better. And surely BG is a safer bet than just some random quote out of Yellow Pages? Wouldnt you have more come back if you had problems?
Oh, and I'm in Liverpool if thats makes any difference
Your advice is appreciated0 -

Hi...although my OH does all his own work related to plumbing and heating installations, many RGIs have tried and tested brickies, electricians, carpenters etc. who will do the necessary as required.
If you are unable to get a recommendation from a source you trust eg. work colleagues, friends etc, try the CIPHE 'Find a Plumber' facility.
Ask to see the GSR ID card of anyone who visits to quote and check their qualifications on the reverse side (details also available on the Gas Safe Register website).
In regard to combi output, a 28 kW is the lowest the OH would recommend to a customer...it is the DHW flow rate which is impacted i.e a 24kW combi will take a long time to fill a bath and provide a disappointing shower. Instead of a WB I would recommend a Remeha Avanta or Viessmann (5 year P+L warranty is available on both).
I would say that price is well OTT...perhaps our friends in the NW could advise.;)
Let us know how you get on.

Thanks again.
So, anyone in the Northwest with any recommendations?0 -
All I can say is from quotes I have in the past BG have always been about 40% or more higher than local tradesmen and offered inferior boilers in that price.
I believe in recommendations from local friends/relatives as often a good thing.0 -
Hi
Just had another quote, and want opinions on both it and the boiler please
Again moving boiler under the stairs, but says window does not need to be bricked as long as we nail it shut
Its for an Ideal Isar 30.
Price for it and installation £1500
Then the choice of either flushing for £300-500, or getting one of the Magnaclean type things for around £100. He says the Magnaclean will basically do the same thing as a PowerFlush
Cheers

I would not trust anyone who recommends an Ideal Isar. No ifs, no buts.0 -

Another quote is due back today or tomorrow, so hoping that might be the one!0 -
Ideal Isars keep the repair industry in business definately steer clear!! Like canuck said remaha or viessmann both excellent quality boilers (viessmann after sales customer service is second to none!) I personally think a recommendation from a friend is the way to go, it's like a try before you buy!!0
