What the HELL is Alliance & Leicester Playing at??

Early in September 2009 I decided to open a cuurent account u know the one with the £100 cashback if u moved DDs etc.

Anyway get a ltr couple days later stating not eligible for cashback . So I phoned them up to close the account as I couldn't be annoyed with the hassle. They said no problem and would get it sorted.

Get a ltr dated 27 October stating that they have moved my DDs over from Nationwide.:confused::confused::confused:

Phone them up they say yes the account should have been closed but wasn't and they dont know why...its states it on their computer system to close. So I ask why their have taken my DDs when the account was supposed to be closed and ask what they r going 2 do about it. They don't know... we will phone you and post u a letter.:confused:

What should I do now they have stolen my DDs from my Nationwide account.. there is no money in this so called closed account.

Any advice please.. thanks

Do a switch back to Nationwide, you can request it through your online banking.
And if the offer is still on, you'll get £50 for doing it.

You need to make a complaint and ask them 1) why this happened and 2) how they are going to put it right for you QUICKLY?

As an outcome here I'd still expect to get £100 as a gesture of goodwill at LEAST if you have met all the conditions for the incentive but it's their !!!! up. Another £25-50 on top wouldn't go amiss either.

For starters you are well out tbh!

Make sure you keep a record of every phone call you make to these muppets - name of person, time of call, what said. Log everything for the FO.

I had a problem and it took them 6 months to resolve it. Useless.

    good luck in sorting it.

  • I had a letter from A&L today saying that Nationwide hadn't provided them with a list of my DDebits within the allowed window and they had frozen the transfer. They expect me to contact Nationwide and get them the list.

Seems that the Nationwide were a little more efficient for the original poster!

Oh and compensation is more in the line of £200 I would think 30 mins first phone call yesterday and the first guy I spoke to seemed to think it is pretty funny at first until he checked the notes and found it was their mistake ***holes

I had problems with A+L. It took them 8 weeks - 2 days to close my account. They never did answer my complaint

I will take it to the Ombundsman if necessary.
  • Yes, A&L are terrible, so you're best off out it. I believe they are the worst bank in the UK by far.

Keep a diary and copies of everything you say and do with them.

    Good luck!

As an Ex A&L customer i aways have to laugh when they start offering £100 to open an account. This is because i know that 99% of the time they will cost you more than that in the long run or even the short run. I banked with them for 6 weeks, they cost me £1050 which i never got back. Ombudsman was a let down too, even if the ombudsman is on your side, A&L will still not doing anything. They dont give a !!!! simple as. THE most pathetic excuse for a bank imaginable
