Question for anyone who does Usborne books at home

Hello all!
I am considering starting with Usborne, but was wondering if it's possible to make £500 or more per month with it or whether it's best to just do it for a bit of pocket money?
I want to try and earn this amount per month if possible, I understand that I'll probably have to do ground work initially and won't make much profit at the start.
Thanks:o

Hi there
I sell Usborne books and I have to admit that I don't make £500 each month, however that's not to say that it can't be done! I think you definitely need to bare in mind that it does take time to build up your customer base and do the ground work, and from my experience this really does pay off.
The wonderful thing about trying Usborne is that it's not a big start up fee so you can try it and see how you get on. Plus you can get lots of free books along the way!
I hope that helps, and I'm sure you will get some other organisers on here giving you advice too. Now is probably one of the best times of the year to give it a go as you have Christmas coming up and Usborne books make excellent presents!0 -
Hi Yummy Mummy.
It is possible to make £500 a month, although like you said you would have to do the ground work initially. This time of year is excellent time to start as there is so much going on in the run up to Christmas.
Our basic level of commission is 24% so you need to sell approximately £2000 worth of a books a month, or you could build a team of people and earn extra from them (initially you get paid 6% of their sales) and sell less books yourself. You can sell books to schools, libraries, childrens centre as well as at home parties, toddler groups etc so there is scope for that level of sales.
I'm happy to answer any questions you have, so fire away.0 -
I meant to say that the main Usborne Website is www.usbornebooksathome.co.uk they will put you in touch with an organiser, or you could pm any Usborne organiser who can chat to you personally (I'm sure they won't mind)0

Hi Yummy!
I have just started with Usborne - about two days ago and signed up with Caroline ^.
I have found the feedback from schools, nurseries etc quite mixed - some are really interested and some don't want to know - but i'm sure thats the same with anything. I did a lot of ground work whilst I was thinking about starting so that I knew whether I could earn at least £500 per month too - I think its definitely do-able! But as the others have said, you do have to be willing to put in the time and effort to get a good customer base. I've mainly been looking at fairs, school events etc. Its a really good time to start - in the run up to christmas! I received my starter kit the other day and the books are just as lovely as I remember - a lot of mums that I know have only good things to say about Usborne so I think they will sell well.
I can let you know how I get on for a bit - PM me, and maybe if you do decide to go ahead with it we can help each other out??

Of course, you have to remeber that this is just another MLM pyramid - and that someone above you will always be taking part of the money that you've worked so hard to gain.
Yes, you might need to sell 2000 pounds worth of books to make 500 pounds a month - but what about your costs in selling those 2000 pounds worth of books?

They are (they're) sitting on the floor.
Their books are lying on the floor.
The books are sitting just there on the floor.0 -
Just following on from PolishBigSpenders last reply - you can earn money without having to recruit any of your own usborne reps - you can indeed expand your business and earnings by recruiting your own organisers but you dont have to do this in order to earn money from it! You get 24% commission from every book you sell whether you have a team below you or not :T'It is better to live your own destiny imperfectly than to live an imitation of somebody else's life with perfection' Elizabeth Gilbert.

I did Usbourne books for about a year and made about £50! I contacted all the schools playgroups etc in my area and done quite a few parties but no one was interested as the books were too highly priced. I expect if you live in a better area you could make more money.0

Yes, the prices can be higher than some although by buying through an Usborne Organiser, schools and nurseries etc can benefit from getting a good % off books, and free books!'It is better to live your own destiny imperfectly than to live an imitation of somebody else's life with perfection' Elizabeth Gilbert.

You need to do your homework before posting!
I don't take other peoples money, I am paid separately by Usborne for the help and support I provide. No matter what level you are, we all earn the same on our personal sales.
yes, if we were an illegal pyramid selling scheme your post would be accurate, but MLM (direct selling assoc members) are not pyramid schemes, so please get your facts right!!
yes, you will incur costs. Whatever your work you incur costs, even if you can walk to work and save on petrol or train fair, you still have to buy work clothes!
I would advise everyone to do their homework before joining any MLM company and I would suggest that you are best off joining a DSA member (https://www.dsa.org.uk).
However, if you want to work for yourself, have a flexible work pattern and earn what you want to earn, then go for it.
Please tread very carefully where ill informed posters are concerned and at least take the time to speak to people who actually do the work!0 -
Can I jump in on your thread and ask another Usborne question please?
If I want to do fayres do I have to buy the stock up front myself or how does it work? In terms of selling to schools etc does the same apply? I emailed Usborne about the start of the week as I am very keen to join, especially as its only £25 for the month of October but as yet haven't had a reply. Also, after I pay this initial £25, are there any other costs or hidden costs?
Thanks in advance
