Help needed !!

Hiya All

Juat wondering if anyone can give me any advice please, Approx 2 months ago i finally faced up to the fact that my debt was spiralling out of control and began to miss payments to my credit card companies, Ive worked out i have appox 30k of debt but it began spiralling about Nov last yr when my husband was put on short time due to the recession which practically halved his wages overnight !! I stupidly paid creditors with credit and now have increased the amount i owe and have maxed out all the cards i own !!Ive waited nearly a month for my telephone interview with CCCS which was to take place at 15:45pm today,( ive had an awful time with multiple telephone calls from creditors during this time and felt this was my light at the end of the tunnel ) ive taken time off work to be available and have waited until 16:30 with no call then just had a call from CCCS to cancel my appointment due to sickness and ive now been informed i have to be re booked ?? im so upset as i really cant wait much longer im so stressed its making me ill and im now frightened to answer the phone or any mail , surely someone else could take the call ??

    Hi

When have they offer an alternative appointment?

And have you sent letters with your CCCS number to the creditors?
If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing
  • Hiya
They offered me n alternative appointment on thurs but im a nurse and work shifts so its not convenient for me as im already rostereed to work and have no chance of changing, ive now got to see if i can get someone to swop shifts with me for a ? appopintment on Friday at 4pm but if i cant find anyone i dont know what im going to do !! I havnt sent any letters yet as i was advised by the CCCS to wait until i had had my appointment, but ive now recieved a default letter from Natwest who i havnt paid anythin to for past 2 months and constant telephone calls from Virgin who have put my interest up to 34.9% i have paid them small amounts but the charges keep on being added and they now want a payment of nearly £500 of me !! i have informed them of my CCCS reference number when they call but now ive not had my planned interview i really dont know what to do ?? My main problems are Virgin,Natwest and Lloyds TSB which are the 3 im behind on, Ive also got 2 loans and 2 other credit cards which i am up to date on but every month its getting harder and harder, I would appreciate any help in what i should put in letters or is i should be making token payments as i had put all hope into getting something sorted today
    Many thanks
  • Make token payments just put a quick letter together saying that you are seeking advice from the CCCS, have an interview with them on such and such a date and that you enclose a token payment of £1 until the CCCS have been in contact with them .

You'll be ok - it will get better and easier :)

Why have you recently added to your sky package?

creditors will not be happy with you going onto a DMP with a £55pm sky package.

You need to do a full and realistic SOA, CCCS will nedd it anyway, try this one it will give the full picture.

    Hi Jayne,

Please try not to worry - you WILL get this sorted!

I was in exactly the same position as you - what you need to do is write to all of your creditors, offering them a token payment of what you can afford this month - this was the letter I used (and it worked): -

    Your Ref.

    Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing with reference to the above account.

As you will be aware, I have been making regular payments of £xxx to this account.

My financial circumstances have now changed and I am taking advice from, and working with, the Consumer Credit Counselling Service with regard to my income, expenditure and commitments to creditors.

For your reference, my case number with the CCCS is XXXXXXX and I have a detailed counselling session booked with them on XXth XXXXXXX 2009.

On their advice, I am writing to respectfully request that you accept a token payment of £XX this month (preferably enclose a postal order), which is as much as I am able to afford at this time.

Following my appointment on XXth XXXXXX, I will be able to contact you again to discuss the level of payments that I will be able to afford going forward – this I will do without delay.

    Yours faithfully.

(Don’t sign the letter – just type your name)

This will give you enough time to get a counselling appointment that is convenient to you and will also give you time to gather all the income and expenditure details (plus full details of balances outstanding) to run through with the counsellor.

Finally - ONLY deal with your creditors in writing - there is a letter on here somewhere (CAN SOMEONE POST A LINK?) to send telling your creditors not to contact you by telephone as well - in the meantime - if they call, just tell them you are/have written to them advising of your current position and you will not discuss on the phone.

Again, please try not to worry - I've been in a far worse position than you and come out the other side without too much effort - keep in touch on here or PM me if you want any help.

    Good luck....!

It appears that a full HD movies and sports package is now considered a human right, no matter whether you can afford to pay your debts or not.
Sorry, but I had to say it.

How sad!! This person has come on here seeking support and advice - they are also seeking help from CCCS for their problems - these forums are supposed to be for support, not judgement!

Shame on you - if you have nothing positive to contribute, then contribute nothing!

It is difficult to believe someone is serious about tackling there debts whilst spending £60.00 per month on an expensive, unnecessary TV package, and I believe the creditors will feel the same. To me it just does not add up.
  • Hi there the advice about offering token payments and requesting written contact only is spot on - do take it.

In the meantime you could see whether Payplan could see you any sooner.

Whatever the case get started on a SoA as CCCS/Payplan will need one in order to help you. Once you have one drafted post it on here and we will try to help you cut your outgoings so that you can afford to pay more off your debts.

Also start a spending diary, often when people do an SoA it looks like they have a surplus each month and they are mystified as to where this money is going as they believe they are only spending on essentials. They way to get control and moniter where your money goes is to record every penny whether online or in a notebook.

Both of these things will help you deal with your debts.

The other thing to do immediately is to go through all your bills and see where you can save. Can you cancel sky/gym/mobile contract/magazine subscription etc? Can you reduce them? Compare all your insurance and utility bills too and switch if you can find a cheaper deal. Get on the O/S board and reduce your grocery spend. All this will free up cash for paying off your debts.

    Good Luck.

Like I said - if you have nothing constructive to add, don't add anything - yes, the OP could save some money on their Sky etc. and the post referred to shows she recognises that. However, this is not going to sort out her immediate problem and how to deal with it, which is what she is seeking assistance for.

We all make mistakes (and this can include signing up to phone/TV deals that tie you in) and when people come on here looking for help, they are looking for help not judgment!
