Spam Button: 430 threads deleted so far

I know there's been discussion about whether the spam button is effective or not - but often that's because its the threads that stay you see not the ones that go.
So far since we launched it - 430 threads have been deleted by use of the spam function.
It works by deleting a post after a number of forum users have reported it (and its then sent to abuse to double check it really is spam). We have just lowered the threshold slightly which should help get rid of them a little quicker.
Thanks to all the spam clickers for helping keep the forum clean
Martin
PS I know some people are worried that deleted threads still appear in the "last post" section - that's just the way the softwares built - you wont be allowed to click through to it - and it will go as soon as someone posts another thread.

As you say, if it is working well you don't tend to see the evidence.
But I have noticed that a lot of spam is getting "zapped" on my boards very quickly by the users, well before the MSE team or anyone else has a chance. On some of the slower boards the effectiveness may not be as great, but I'm sure it is still helping.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

I think I might have posted on or reported or clicked the spam button more than 430 threads since the spam button was intrudced

Any response to this issue?Something else that's very annoying is the 'Abuse' button that has a 'mailto:' link. Most people these days use webmail accounts like hotmail/yahoo mail, so it is pointless having an abuse button that simply opens up Outlook Express which isn't set up for anything. Can't the abuse button be like the Spam button, i.e. web-based, without having to send an email?poppy100

I admit that now if I see any spam I just type 'the post above is spam, please click the spam button on the above (or numbered) post to report it' and it worked on that one. Then I deleted my post once the spam post had gone. It seems to be the only way forward as otherwise it is ignored and assumed that someone else has reported it.
BUT, without this I still cannot see the point in it. I've 'reported' a few times as it just seems easier and more effective.0 -

Yep its the PS to my first post.BUT, without this I still cannot see the point in it. I've 'reported' a few times as it just seems easier and more effective.
We do not have 24 hour abuse coverage -the spam button is a 24 hour function -it has MASSIVELY reduced the amount of spam on the boards - of course it hasn't solved all of it - but the result is very impressive and it means that spam can be user controlled. It should be slightly more efficient now we've lowered the posting threshold tooMartin Lewis, Money Saving Expert.

I always post and tell people to press the 'abuse' button on the thread to report a spam post. I uess they would start looking when they get lots of abuse reports about the same post.0 -

The Money Savers Arms boards and Forum Policy & Rules Discussion don't.
At least for me anyway.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

I am glad the threshold has been reduced, a lot of threads do remain for many hours even though they get viewed a lot, because people dont click spam button for whatever reason
Still its been a good success because at least some posts have gone that would otherwise remain, some forums are better are getting removed quickly like freebie forum0 -
I just joined tonight but I dont have a spam button I seen a spam post in discount forum
Have I got to be a member for a few days to get it?0
